Obama to reporter: 'Let me finish my answers' next time

well you can't really blame someone for getting upset with being cut off mid sentance. he is the President afterall.

If you have watched interviews with Obama, he likes to drone on and run out the time so the interviewer has to intertupt to get more questions in.

Scedule more time. If the question is worth asking, it's worth listening to the entire answer.

The answer is only worth listening to if relevant to the question posed.

True, and thus the followup question. I have no problem requiring an actual answer. But we have to be willing to listen to the answer.

And if he gives you some run of the mill bull**** answer you stop in mid sentence. I would too. I have a feeling me interviewing that empty suit would not go well.

At this stage, all our politiicans give BS answers. We should require all of them answer. No need to be too abusive, but being persistent is not a fault. And saying clearly that the answer was lacking is fine as well. And as a people, we need to not see being tough on our guy is biased. They should all be held to the fire.

BTW, this should be about real issues and not senesational nutter ****.

To be fair it is considered rude to cut people off when they're talking.

What a child this man is. Thin skinned, and unwilling to be challenged in his answers to tough questions. In fact anyone remember during the campaign, reporters he didn't like the questions of somehow disappeared from the press pool?

I'm not a water-carrier for the President, but for the love of everything that is holy this is a retarded thread and that reporter's characterization is completely false.

The President's complaint was that he was being interrupted, and he didn't want to be interrupted.

I'm the same way. It takes me a little more time than most other people to formulate a thought in a way that will make sense to someone else and then give voice to it, so when someone interrupts me it totally derails my brain and pisses me the **** off.

****ing bloody hell, if you're going to complain about the President at least come up with a legitimate complaint.

Scedule more time. If the question is worth asking, it's worth listening to the entire answer.

The interviewer doesn't decide how much time he has, the administration does. He does what he needs to do.

Now with that being said, I think Obama is a checkers player as opposed to a chess player.

His comments put this nothing reporter on the lips of the whole country.

If Obama would have just walked off, nobody would have even paid attention to the interview and we wouldn't be talking about it here now.

We need a chess player as a president to see three or four moves down the road.

I've got a better idea.

If I was President and somebody wanted an interview, I'd specify a few basic rules of common courtesy, and if when it became clear that they weren't going to be respected, I'd simply tell the hatchet-man in question that I had affairs of state to attend to and walk away.

ETA: I'd also flatly refuse any future interview requests from that station or network until I received a formal apology.

Right, walk away, that is what I said.

Obama didn't do that.

This is a man that likes to 'control' the media and when he can't it rattles him. What a loser he is.

j-mac
Dumb thread dude. Need I remind you that Republicans called "what newspapers and magazines do you read" a "Gotchya question" during the election?

Limbaugh told you that Obama is thin-skinned and therefor you have to go out and repeat those talking points. Good job. Master would be proud.

It doesn't matter. If the question is worth asking, it's worth listening to the answer. So, ask your best question and listen to the answer.

I also bet if he walked off after being asked the question, we'd still be hearing about it as well.

lol....Obama is starting to show his true colors

Limp, panicky and half-measures lead to more Obama incompetence

You can legitimately claim about Obama deciding to get involved in Libya and forcing people to buy healthcare, but this is just BS... and you guys are looking for something... anything to complain about smear Obama with.

Really? Let's go back to the original post I called you on shall we?

You said:

so now after 5 pages, and some back and forth, I will ask, Whom are you talking about here that has said that Obama is a "Secret Muslim", "Socialist", "Kenyan", or want's to "secretly destroy America"?

Were you saying that Soccerboy was saying this, because that is whom you were addressing? Or were you making a larger point that "You" being in the general terminology is trumpeting that, and I ask if the latter, whom is in the generalization that you so wrongly characterize?

But then you went further to say:

Who are the "idiots" SW? I can assume like you, but I prefer to see you have the integrity to come on out and say it.

Oh, an informed assumption...Well then what are you basing your informed assumption on? And as to assumptions they are a bad road to go down, because generally assumptions are made on perceptions, and thus are skewed by our notions of what we believe, and don't really know about the person we are assuming of.

Facts be damned. Ok that tells me volumes about your thought processes.

Says who? You? Or are you assuming again? they are by the very definition ignorant, and offensive.

Hard to tell who you were talking about....It was generalized to the point allowing you to now weasel out of what you really meant. And no you didn't just say "birtherism is stupid" I posted you exact quote. Now you are just being dishonest about it.

It may not make you a liberal, but it doesn't make you independent either.

Probably in my assumption a liberal that is ashamed to admit it....See how off assumptions can be?

I had a problem with it because I am so damn tired of this Allensky style smear debate that libs often employ today, then just as you did, refuse to stand behind their own words. It is highly dishonest. But if that is how you want to proceed then God Speed girl. I am done with it.

j-mac

Again, I wasn't making assumptions about the conservatives in this thread being birthers and believing in those conspiracy theories. If you are a birther and believe in those conspiracies, then I think you are ignorant... that's my opinion.

"You might not like how he defends his decisions or his reasoning, but because this is a free country, you're not going to be killed or punished for disagreeing with the leader. But to think this president is a liar, a secret Muslim, socialist, and Kenyan who secretly wants to destroy America is just stupid and insane, and the epitome of ignorant."

The use of "you" is general, second person... "You" wasn't referring to anybody specific as you... jmac, or you... xyz, nor did I generalize all Conservatives in that statement. For example:

"Conservatives might not like how he defends his decisions or his reasoning, but because this is a free country, Conservatives are not going to be killed or punished for disagreeing with the leader. But Conservatives are just stupid and insane, and epitome of ignorant for believing this president is a liar, a secret Muslim, socialist, and Kenyan who secretly wants to destroy America."

Obviously I was addressing birthers and people believing in those conspiracy theories, and saying they are ignorant. I'll own up to it Jmac, because I really do think they are ignorant.

Honestly, Jmac, you just imaged and think I said things that I did not. I am not trying to weasel out of anything.

The answer is only worth listening to if relevant to the question posed.

If he rambles on and doesn't answer the question... that will reflect on him

If the journalist interrupts him before allowing him answer the question... that will reflect on the journalist

When Palin couldn't communicate a complete or clear thought or answer a question straight on, nobody interrupted her. They sat back and let her ramble on and on... and that reflected on her.

I want to hear their BS answers and hold them accountable for them... If Obama puts his foot in his mouth, that's something for the GOP to run against him on. If the journalist doesn't give him a chance, that's the journalists fault. I think whatever the pres has to say is more important to hear than some dumbass, bottom tier journalist with a big ego.

I still don't really understand what's wrong with asking to be able to complete one's answer when asked a question.

There's nothing wrong with it. Folks who simply don't like this President will dredge up just about anything to make a big deal out of it in an effort to make him look petty and insignificant. But I bet if it were Reagan or either of the Bushes and a journalist from NBC/MSNBC or CNN did it they'd be stark raving mad about it and insisting that the journalist was bias.

I'm not claiming such; I just think it's rude for anyone no matter who they are not to allow a person the opportunity to complete their statement especially if that person is the President of the United States. Goes to total disrespect for the person and the office.

For ****s sake, I don't care how the pres interacts with journalists. I care about whether or not he respects my rights and doesn't screw the country up, or treats the Constitution like it's just a piece of paper. Honestly, you are looking for some BS to complain about and pin on Obama.

I like that idea. I really don't want to see journalists treat our leaders with disrespect. If the American people are going to stand to see some Liberal Arts students treat the president with disrespect, then why can't foreign leaders, our enemies, or anybody else in this country do the same? The president in the the commander in chief of the armed forces, and it is unacceptable in the armed forces to talk to your superiors disrespectfully or interrupt them. You can be held in contempt of court if you disrespect a freaking judge. You shouldn't be allowed to disrespect the president.

This is true... If Couric interrupted Palin like that, the GOP would have been fuming.

Oh, yes if someone like Olbermen or Couric interrupted Bush during his presidency every one in the Media would be in an outrage right now.

I still don't see what is wrong with the asking if he could finish his answer.
