House passes huge GOP budget cuts

every week we fail to act is costing us on the order of 50 billion we don't have

U.S. sets $223B deficit record - Washington Times

is there even that much richness to tax it out of?

50 billion a week?

hurry, harry

act on the slasher's excellent speech, his great speech

we need major budget reform---fast

interesting link for ya, about 10 top companies that pay little or no tax and make billions

yes, we know

and barack the slasher hussein appointed the offshore poster boy to his lofty position of JOBS CZAR

leadership, anyone?

... and the government is so much better with your money?

GAO Finds Massive Waste, Duplication - FoxBusiness.com

on march one, only 45 days ago, no less than the GOVT ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE reported that it had found a full HALF TRILLION dollars of waste and duplication and fraud, mismanagement, corruption...

further, "most of it came in fiscal years 09 and 10"

moreover, MOST programs have never been "evaluated for efficiency"

"little is known of the effectiveness of MOST (emphasis mine) programs"

this is G-A-O talkin

NO MORE MONEY for managers so morose

the G-A-O also determined that CAP AND TRADE (which, thank the lord, is DEAD, america simply could not stand a BLOW like that to ENERGY in times like these) would COST the united states consumer an entire TWO HUNDRED BILLION per year

or 1800 dollars per household

THIS is the real barack the slasher

this is his HEART

know the man

And how exactly does staying on the same track fix our financial issues? You do know that the Federal Gov. borrows over $0.33 of each $1 it spends (and that's a lowballed guess), right?

Then raise revenue... the idea of cutting taxes (which by the way is a cornerstone of this so called budget) when we are "broke" as you put it, is absurd. To use the over-hyped family budget idea, last time you had a family budget issue, wasn't the first thought... its time to make more money (and cut expenses).

One third of the current deficit was cause by revenues falling off in the recession. 2009 collections were $2.1T, down from $2.5 in 2008 and off by $700B from the expected 2009 collections.

fine, tell harry to write it up

and hurry

americans want solutions, budget reform, not excellent speeches, great speeches

Why are you saying people will be at the whims of the corporate elite?

Because corporate lobbyists own Congress, even write all the bills, give huge donations to them, make them dependent on these donations, sorely needed to finance their next elections, all based on job security, the desperate need of all politicians.

ricksfolly

Correction: One party wants to be the working/middle class subservient to their wealthy base. Republicans don't get a rat's ass about the vast majority of this country.
If they had their way we would all be right-wing "Christians" and 1% of the population would control 99.9% of all the wealth in this country.

that is oozing BS
you dems claiming you care for the working class is the same as coke dealers claiming they care about the addicts while blaming those who want to wean the junkies off the blow are being mean to them

Keeping people dependent and sucking on the public teat is how you dems show how much you care for other Americans

And despite being asked many many times by many many people you have utterly FAILED to present any actual verifiable evidnece that
1) Democrats do this, and
2) Republicans do not

But yet again we have the pontifications of Turtle - statements of what he believes based solely and completely on what he believes simply because he wants to believe it.

your studied avoidance of the obvious is amazing

using logic and common sense would cause reality to smack you in the face like a wet pontoon.
tell us Haymarket-what party keeps calling for more social spending?

what party enacted the new deal and great society?

why do you dodge facts/

When it comes down to it, Americans couldn't cares less about the budget, if they had, they would have screamed bloody murder when Bush was president. They DO care about having Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and that's why President Obama and the Democrats will take this legislation and wrap it around the neck of Republicans.

yep the dems have created a nation of addicts

It is possible that the GOP has gone too far, but face it, the Democrats have not gone far enough. Sure, we do need a social safety net, but at the same time, we are going to have to make some cuts. Taxing the rich by itself isn't going to balance the budget. What I would like to see is some dialogue that ends up somewhere between the Democratic and Republican extremes.

Sounds about right.

(Except I may contend that the GOP hasn't gone far enough yet either. Some major budget changes are going have to happen....)

.

Turtle asks question which can be answered by a review of the historical record

tell us Haymarket-what party keeps calling for more social spending?

Social spending has been voted on year after year in budget after budget by BOTH parties... just as BOTh parties have approved of budgets using revenue from the Progressive Income Tax year after year in budget after budget.

what party enacted the new deal and great society?

It was voted on by members of both parties - both initially and in year after year in budget after budget using revenues raised from the Progressive Income tax approved by both parties.

why do you dodge facts/

those are the facts. It is you who ignore history in favor of ideology and your own extremist belief system.

yep the dems have created a nation of addicts

All the programs and taxes you hate and loathe were enacted by BOTH parties. Check you history.

And year after year in budget after budget, they continue to vote for them.

House passes huge GOP budget cuts, opposing Obama - Yahoo! News

Republicans controlling the House pushed to passage on Friday a bold but politically dangerous budget blueprint to slash social safety net programs like food stamps and Medicaid and fundamentally restructure Medicare health care for the elderly.

The choice in the next election is becoming more and more clear. There is no question which party represents the interests of the wealthy and which party represents the interests of the rest of the country.

The GOP fought hard earlier to preserve tax cuts for those making over 250K. Today they showed how they want to pay for those cuts...by slashing money from food stamps, medicaid and medicare.

The GOP war on the elderly, the poor and the working class continues....

Exactly, the sides are clear in the class war that is underway in America.

I really wish people could see why they are proposing cuts. I guess it doesn't matter to some that we are broke as a country.

Its obvious why the tax cuts to the countries safety nets are being proposed, to attempt to make the poor and the middle class pay for the debt created by the wars and tax cuts for the wealthy.

winning elections sadly requires pandering to the addiction--no new deal and none of this pandering would happen.

and while some in the gOP do vote for that crap, we all know which party is the main sponsor of this crap

LOL--more mindless drivel

tax cuts to the group that now pays more of the federal tax burden than any time in the last 70 years causes deficits but 47%of the population paying no federal income taxes and in many cases voting for more and more spending doesn't cause these problems?

Irony, you has it.

Just for you rev. Just for you.

Social Security Online - HISTORY: Vote tallies on 1935 law

You right wing extremists rant and rail about Social Security and the New Deal. As I have said, it was enacted by both a majority of the members from BOTH parties and that includes Republicans.

House vote 4/19/35 on passage of the Social Security Act

Dems 284 - 15
Rep 81 - 15 (thats over 80% of republican members voting FOR it.

If that is not enough humble pie for you and Turtle to dine on jointly

Senate vote on Social Security Act

Dems 60 yes 1 no 8 not voting
REP 16 yes - 5 no - 4 not voting (thats 2 of every 3 GOP Senators voting FOR Social Security passage

how does that prove anything?

I really wish people could see why they are proposing cuts. I guess it doesn't matter to some that we are broke as a country.

Many on the left figure the country can't run out of money if it still has ink and paper.

Yeah, let's privatize Medicare, because as we've seen over the last few years, private companies are oh so responsible with other people's money...

You mean, like compared with a socialist congress and socialist president?

I’m not sure how well this will go for the Republicans. Getting people to vote against their economic interests only works when economic issues are eclipsed by social fluff issues like gay marriage and abortion.

Getting people to realize their economic interests lay in starvin big government is the key.

You got any clue who's going to be hurt most when the Depression Obama and the Democrats are trying to engineer happens? That's right, it won't be the rich people, it'll be middle class and the poor.

Already people are feeling the pinch because thirty consecutive years of government idiocy has prevented exploring and exploiting domestic oil reserves, and now gasoline is headed towards six dollars a gallon. That's going to do wonders for the phantasmal recovery. Also food inflation is becoming impossible to deny. That's going to go over well with people trying to feed their families and pay the taxes the Democrats demand.

Wanna bet the government will once again refuse to ease the tax burden on gas in the US?
