    Or not.

That's the word I stick to it.

McCain certainly was, Smarty Pants. He had to endure a Congressional hearing about his birthplace.

Maggie is 100 % correct. It is not that Obama is black, it is that some people will look for anything to stop a politician, no matter who they are. Using race just makes it easy for the birthers to defend against the argument and actually score points they don't deserve.

To say race isn't an issue is a fallacy I think. He's black with a funny name from a far away state.

Yes I don't think race is a predominant factor.

If his name was CJ Johnson from Compton I'm sure no one would have said a thing.

But it strikes me as inbalanced a black guy called Barack Hussein Obama is the first one ever to be singled out like this, THE FIRST AND ONLY one.

    That is all.

I agree. I'm over this whole "race isn't an issue in the birther argument" thing. It's definitely a factor along with his name, his father's birthplace, etc.

Read, Jet, read!!! McCain went before a Congressional committee regarding his birthplace. John McCain sounds pretty WASPY to me. This has absolutely nothing to do with the color of his skin.

If McCain would have won, there would still probably be people convinced he was not a natural born citizen. People still think Bush was AWOL, and a war criminal, and responsible for 9/11, and he is not nearly black(though possibly the least racist president of all time).

    I seriously, seriously doubt that.

But the thing here Redress is, we're not here to discuss McCain, or what ifs.

The important is now, and I think this issue has gone too far.

Right now we wouldn't be talking about if McCain was a natural born citizen, left wing zealots would be saying he's a nazi and the right would be countering.

It has never been confirmed he was born there. Only the release of his long form will confirm it.

No, some would be discussing it. It was an issue, and it only died because he lost the election. If people act the same no matter what race, it is not racism.
