Associated Press: Arizona Senate Approves 'Birther' Bill

OF COURSE this isn't about Obama.

OF COURSE this is just a state trying to make sure that the Federal Government is fulfilling its constitutional duties.

AND OF COURSE every president after this one (as long as they're white, and have a good english sounding name) will be subjected to the exact same scrutiny about their birthplace as this president.

Or not.

That's the word I stick to it.

Jetboogieman. :peace:

McCain certainly was, Smarty Pants. ;) He had to endure a Congressional hearing about his birthplace.

Maggie is 100 % correct. It is not that Obama is black, it is that some people will look for anything to stop a politician, no matter who they are. Using race just makes it easy for the birthers to defend against the argument and actually score points they don't deserve.

To say race isn't an issue is a fallacy I think. He's black with a funny name from a far away state.

Yes I don't think race is a predominant factor.

If his name was CJ Johnson from Compton I'm sure no one would have said a thing.

But it strikes me as inbalanced a black guy called Barack Hussein Obama is the first one ever to be singled out like this, THE FIRST AND ONLY one.

That is all.

I agree. I'm over this whole "race isn't an issue in the birther argument" thing. It's definitely a factor along with his name, his father's birthplace, etc.

Read, Jet, read!!! McCain went before a Congressional committee regarding his birthplace. John McCain sounds pretty WASPY to me. This has absolutely nothing to do with the color of his skin.

If McCain would have won, there would still probably be people convinced he was not a natural born citizen. People still think Bush was AWOL, and a war criminal, and responsible for 9/11, and he is not nearly black(though possibly the least racist president of all time).

I seriously, seriously doubt that.

But the thing here Redress is, we're not here to discuss McCain, or what ifs.

The important is now, and I think this issue has gone too far.

Right now we wouldn't be talking about if McCain was a natural born citizen, left wing zealots would be saying he's a nazi and the right would be countering.

It has never been confirmed he was born there. Only the release of his long form will confirm it.

No, some would be discussing it. It was an issue, and it only died because he lost the election. If people act the same no matter what race, it is not racism.

Sorry, but this is nonsense.

Quick quiz.. who was the 1st person to say that about Barack Obama during the election. The answer is in the question.

It was found out last year that Eisenhower, who was white had to show his birth certificate to be eligible.

I'm pretty sure he said that way before the election. It was in that famous speech he made at the DNC convention for Kerry I think. What's your point?

Does anybody honestly think even this law would make the birthers shut the **** up? Or avoid a similar situation in the future?

Tinfoil hatters who aren't satisfied by proof in a court of law aren't going to be satisfied by anything. Current law is more than sufficient to settle the question for any candidate to the satisfaction of a reasonable person. Why bother pandering to the unreasonable crowd?

Newspaper articles give the address of his parents:

The newspaper birth announcements only say that a baby was born, not where. Back in 1961 you could have foreign births and the state would issue a 3rd kind of birth certificate for that purpose. Once the dept of health was notified of the birth via a office visit by the relative or mail in form, a vital record was created thus triggering the birth announcements.

Tell me, of what political affiliation are the people that are birthers?

I agree. I'm over this whole "race isn't an issue in the birther argument" thing. It's definitely a factor along with his name, his father's birthplace, etc.

I think politics is a bigger issue for the birther argument.

I do think that race is a factor in people who think he's a Muslim. If a white guy named Barry O'Bama said "I'm a Christian," would anybody doubt it?

I'd also like this opportunity to ask this rather important question.

How does coming out of a ***** in Detroit make one more qualified to lead the United States?

Since Kenya itself does not recognize dual citizenship, it would never have conferred Kenyan citizenship on someone born in Hawaii who is already an American citizen, even though the father had Kenyan citizenship. Therefore, Obama has only one citizenship - American.
Wrong.

From Obama's own website:

“As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children.”

That last sentence proves Obama jr was born a dual citizen thus voiding his natural born citizenship despite being born in Hawaii.

British Nationality Act of 1948 (Part II, Section 5): Subject to the provisions of this section, a person born after the commencement of this Act shall be a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies by descent if his father is a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies at the time of the birth."

http://www.uniset.ca/naty/BNA1948.htm

So Obama has British Citizenship at the time of birth, that is a given. Did he gain citizenship to Kenya? Yes - via Chapter VI, Section 87(2):

"(2) Every person who, having been born outside Kenya, is on
11th December, 1963 a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies or
a British protected person shall, if his father becomes, or would but for
his death have become, a citizen of Kenya by virtue of subsection (1),
become a citizen of Kenya on 12th December, 1963."

But did becoming a Kenyan Citizen terminate British Citizenship? We look into the Kenyan Constitution and find - NO, it did not. See Chapter VI, Section 95(1):

"95. (1) Every person who, under this Constitution or an Act of
Parliament, is a citizen of Kenya or who, under any law for the time
being in force in a country to which this section applies, is a citizen
of that country shall, by virtue of that citizenship, have the status of a
Commonwealth citizen."

So, like the Thai president recently who admitted he was part British at birth, Obama has never renounced his British Citizenship gained at birth. He never 'automatically' lost it, even when Kenya became independent.

The situations are basically identical.

The thing is the Muslim and birther arguments crossover a lot. Some people just question his citizenship - but in some of those questions come questions about whether he is also a Kenyan Muslim.

Honestly I think the right wing is warming up to him, the Hitler Comparisons ended at least 13 months ago and I haven't heard muslim Obama come up in awhile... things are looking up for the Kenyan Tyrant ;)

And besides all that, he's black... right? That's all this is really about.

What political affiliation are truthers? What political affiliation are people who challenged McCain's citizenship? You don't have to be a racist to be a conspiracy loony.

Mostly just lunatics in tinfoil hats, but there's assuredly a few racists in the bunch.

Proof in a court of law has already been shown to you, people. That proof has been authenticated by appropriate officials in Hawaii. What the **** other "questions" do you have?

I never thought about it that way. You're right. I guess we should just give it a little more time.
