Obama: I'll cut $4 trillion

This kind of partisan tripe doesn't help anything either.

10% less of what ? in tax cuts for the super rich...which can translate into a savings of hundreds of millions for billionaires while the the teaparty tells us the country is on the verge of collapse...if you people cant see the hypocrisy in that whether or not your republicans I dont know what to tell you...but I will tell you this...I wont blindly play follow the leader for anyone if I dont think its right..
After were out of debt then give another tax cut to the richest americans.

Then perhaps you'd better lobby your Republican Congressmen and Senators to raise more taxes on the middle class. I'd really like to know how they'd respond to that.

Wait, the middle class wants all these entilements, but it's politically unpopular to expect them to pay for it?

Well, isn't that interesting. You just pulled the sheepskin off the wolf eh?

Everybody's got to share in the solution. If we're going to exempt the middle class, it ain't gunna get done. Why are you making this partisan??? It's not!!! What don't you get about that??? Our country is in the middle of a fiscal crisis. It is politicians who are being partisan. Can't we be smarter than they?

Who said the middle class is sacrosanct, YOU and only you said that, who said the middleclass shouldnt share the pain, I didnt...now ill ask you
Who the hell are the richest americans to keep getting tax cuts when were BROKE and wanting the middle class and the poor to take hits..
Paul Ryans plan is full of **** 25% straight up tax cut for Americans ONLY AT THE TOP RATE and the same for Corporations, this is AFTER the bush tax cuts are extended...then he and YOU want the middle class and the poor to pay more to fix the debt and give the rich more money....you people must think everyone is stupid.
Ill say this again and stay tuned...if the teaparty wants to go far right they will eventually get spanked just like the far left did.

You're enraged, aren't you? Deep breath. You'll hurt your keyboard. I said that the only thing I liked about Obama's speech was his intent to raise taxes on the richest 2% of Americans. Everyone is making this partisan. If we're going to fix this, it can't be partisan. Everyone's got to work together...and everyone's got to be willing to have an ox gored.

  • Social Security's retirement age has to go up.
  • Medicare's deductible has to be raised based on an income/asset progression.
  • Medicare's premium has to go up based on an income/asset progression.
  • Medicaid needs reform.
  • Those 71 million who don't pay any income tax ought to be paying a lousy $200 a year to live in the USA. Seems damned reasonable.
  • Corporations should have to pay a minimum tax. The idea that GE paid no Federal income tax is ludicrous.
  • And that fact leads to reforming our tax policies across the board...getting rid of deductions that bring millionaire earners down into the same bracket of someone who earns $100K.
  • People shouldn't be able to deduct mortgage interest on their second home.
  • People shouldn't be able to deduct real estate taxes on as many homes as they own.
  • People who can afford to own $100K automobiles ought to pay a luxury tax....on that and many other luxury items they buy.
These are the kinds of tax cuts/revenue raisers I want to see. Not the nambie pambie smoke and mirrors Obama promises. And very little from the GOP plan. This is not partisan. It can't be anymore. And until the politicians "get it," we're just going to continue down the road to ruin.

Verge of collapse because of entitlements that those who want them, cannot afford. Well, yeah, it's obvious what needs to be done right?

Perhaps he should have thought of that before the GOP took ownership. He just looks desperate now.
It was a great speech, he didn't sound desperate to me at all.

Some people will always buy the rhetoric from this President. How about answering some of the tough questions raised in other posts on this thread?

No where did I say the middle class shouldnt pay...I said EVERYONE share the pain and keeping the richest americans tax rate the same doesnt make them pay more...it makes them pay the same and the increases are all on the middleclass

I havent heard obamas speech, I dont have a clue whats in it...but I have paid very close attention to Paul Ryans and I am not afraid or ashamed to say I think it sucks.
The middle class should pay more...but the RICH should not pay less until were out of debt....and I will also state publically that every week I pull further away from the teaparty. I sincerely hope you conservatives on here dont think that all republicans are bowing and idolizing all the teaparty ideals as you are.

I'd say that it was a great speech if I was out of my freaking mind. There was no leadership and rhetoric galore. This guy was not serious at all except about himself. Same old crap as usual.

What needs to be done is obvious...the portion of Paul Ryans plan to make the middle class pay more for medicare is fine...if you actually read paul ryans plan he extensively pounds the middle class with increases and costs...ok thats FINE TOO...whats not fine is taking all the from the middle class and give the richest americans a HUGE tax cut and corporations...
I could post so many links that show CEOs are overpaid pigs at the trough...you whine about paying for SS and medicare but who pays for the CEO of Exxon Mobils 400 million retirement package...EVERYONE THAT BUYS gas at 4.00 a gallon so you me and everyone else pay for CEO multimillion dollar paydays....no tax cuts for the rich and most of paul ryans plan will float

There you go, tax the rich. The rich people who went to school worked their asses off to become rich and give people jobs, now they have to SHARE their wealth with the LEACHES of society. BRAVO!!!! This is called Socialism.

Right it sucks because it actually creates some pain and cuts overspending. You call for pain by all then support a plan that does nothing but penalize the rich and does nothing to cut the deficit or debt. How much revenue do you think you are going to get from the rich each year? What happens when the rich's personal income is reduced because of higher taxes? Who does that hurt or help? Here is something you and the liberals in this group don't want to address.

The top 1% of wage earners make 20% of all income and pay 38% of all taxes.
The top 5% of wage earners make 34.7% of all income and pay 58.7% of all taxes.
The top 10% of wage earners make 45.8% of all income and pay 69.9% of all taxes.

The bottom 50% make 12.8% of all income and pay 2.7% of all taxes.

Currently approximately 47% of all Americans pay nothing and actually get money back making their tax rate negative.

if the teaparty wants to go far right they will eventually get spanked just like the far left did.

i don't think ryan's exactly tea party, not by my view, at least

ryan is more house leadership, i think

our times are complex

Shush until you learn how to read someones post

I doubt many Republicans are serious about doing anything other than winning the election for their party.

the difference is the gop plan is ON PAPER

it's real, it exists

it's there for anyone with an ax to grind to hack at

But it's not up to the President to provide details.

he's the head of his party

his party in overmwhelming control of congress produced NO budget in 2011, NO senate reaction as yet to hr1 which is ON PAPER, and that dreadful, doa 2012 budget proposal which (completely outta touch) actually RAISES the deficit twenty percent (to 1.65T) and seems to operate under the amnesiac assumption that bowles-simpson (which he's been harping on for 2 years) don't exist, never did exist

twilight zone, anyone?

Prof, ryan is on the teaparty bandwagon. The teaparty 30-45 rich guys need to keep something in mind...there are numerous middleclass republicans just like me who make less than 150k.
I fully understand the country is in debt. I fully understand something has to be done. I also know when the economy kicks back in tons more tax revenue will be collected federal and in states.
The teaparty should be attacking illegal immigration that costs us untold billions, not a mention. Why arent they harping on a moratorium on ALL FOREIGN AID until our own house finances are right. Why arent they looking at the billions in subsidies to big corporations...everyone with a brain the size of a pea knows big oil shouldnt be getting a nickle in subsidies theyve been getting them for decades and we the people have gotten zero benefit except to watch their profits soar and their CEO get a 400 million retirement package...Im not talking class warfare here im talking the TRUTH. Im sick and tired of hearing the sameOle conservative and liberal talking points...both of them are broken BS records...Tax cuts for the rich creates jobs, The rich pay to much, Corporations need no regulations blah blah blah...and the left with all their garbage. Somewhere in the middle is the truth and thats where we have to get to be successful again and prosper.
There should be NO MORE tax cuts for the Richest Americans until we are out of debt. Social Security and Medicare should be part of a package of cuts along with stopping illegal immigration and GIMMES for illegal immigrants as well as the end of outrageous giving countries our money that we BORROWED and subsidies to big corps to enhance CEO pay and BONUS..
Lets all stop the bull**** please and be realistic and get the job done. We could do this with very little pain to any americans if we cut where ryans plan doesnt even GO. Thats my story and im stickin to it ::)

We have 50 states that do most of what the Federal Govt does so why the duplication?

duplication:

http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/2011/03/01/gao-finds-massive-waste-duplication/

on march one, only 40 days ago, no less than the GOVT ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE reported that it had found a full HALF TRILLION dollars of waste and duplication and fraud, mismanagement, corruption...

LOST, a full half T---pfft

further, "most of it came in fiscal years 09 and 10"

moreover, MOST programs have never been "evaluated for efficiency"

"little is known of the effectiveness of MOST (emphasis mine) programs"

this is G-A-O talkin

NO MORE MONEY for managers so morose

the G-A-O also determined that CAP AND TRADE (which, thank the lord, is DEAD, america simply could not stand a BLOW like that to ENERGY in times like these) would COST the united states consumer an entire TWO HUNDRED BILLION per

or 1800 dollars per household

THIS is the real barack the slasher

this is his HEART

you're pointing the way, friend

we are so far under, we're gonna have to do everything---soc sec age, soc sec pay-ins, soc sec bennies, means testing

no 3 of the 4 will do

for example

medicaid's first step is to block it to the states, it's killing em, and its mandates are untenable, it's not working at the federal level, the states must be freed up to work out solutions

Not the nambie pambie smoke and mirrors Obama promises.

he thinks he's sleight of hand

but he doesn't have anything up his sleeve

I liked his speech, and I hope that the plan he laid out comes to fruition. Alot of the elements of it that he spoke about is what I have wanting them to do for a while now.
