lol...do you think i'm poor? i am middle class and i specifically posted that i could stand a bump. and i am a liberal. the lower middle class and poor already have enough of a burden, don't you think? a true patriot would care about his fellow citizens.
Let's not make this a contest of I care more for my fellow citizens than you do, silly. I have no idea what you mean by middle class, nor do I know what you mean by a "bump". So the words have little meaning without context. The president says that people who makes more than $250K are rich and should pay more while those below that level should pay less than they paid under Clinton. So unless your statement menas your family earns for than $250K, the bump you talk about is just that, talk.
I on the other hand said that the "rich" even using Obama's definition which I do not agree with should not make a big deal about the 4% increase in their rates. I say that although my taxes are already much more than the average American's income. I was lucky enough to do well, and have no problem paying a higher percent than others who do less well.
I also think that the lower middle class, whatever that means, should also pay more if they want an expanded government. If they say it would be great to have some of this stuff, but I can't afford it that is fine. But to say I want more, but want to contribute less in my view is, harshly stated, unethical.
The reality is I am essentially done, that is I made it to retirement so how the economy does in the future will impact me less, if I watch my investments. But I do not a son not yet out of college and from a selfish point, I do not want him and his generations saddled with the debt of a couple of generations that lived beyond it's means and passed the bill to him, his cousins and all other young Americans. At the pace we are on and adjusting for a real interest rate this country will be paying nearly a trillion dollars a year essentially to foreigners to pay for a debt they did not incur. So if the country grows at 4% a year, which will be hard to a mature economy, the next generation's standard of living will stagnate at best.
All the sound and fury I read on this site sometimes drives me nuts. Just partisan back and forth without really lookinf into the depths of the problems we face and just repeating the talking points from both sides of the aisle.
I had hoped for more when I entered this site. Probably unrealistic on an internet site that seems to thrive on soundbites.
Sorry for lengthy outburst, not intended at you just this venue seems to be a disapoinment. Looking at the bright side, it is getting warmer where I live so I will spend more timeon the golf course and less time with this stuff.
