Really, though, the key issue is that religious freedom has to work on a personal level too. Supporting "religious freedom" while trying to prevent a mosque from being built is a bit hypocritical. This happens a lot in this country.
And what stopped the bigots from preventing the mosque being built? American law, that's what. Can't say the same for Europe, though.

Eh? There are no laws banning the building of mosques in Europe. In Switzerland right wing wackos got minarets banned, but that does not ban mosques. And Switzerland aint all of Europe.

And as for the protest.. well if these people had got the required legal permissions to hold a gathering for such a large crowd, something that is required in pretty much every single major city and country on the planet, then they would not have been arrested.

your criticism doesn't really make any sense. People trying to pass some law doesn't presuppose that the law will be seen as constitutional by the courts, nor is it evidence that we, as a country, don't respect religious freedom.

Also, due to free speech, they're well within their rights to advocate such, and the rest of us are free to ignore them

Sharia is banned or is trying to be banned in some US states. You might have a technical freedom of religion on paper, but the citizens of especially "red" states could care less when it comes to Muslims it seems.

    1) Individuals are free to hate islam. However, their hate doesn't change the fact that they live under a legal system that guarantees Muslims the same religious freedom, and equality, they enjoy. So they could never hope to ban minarets, nor mosques, unless they mustered enough support to change the constitution

    2) in regards to the anti-sharia laws, the one in Oklahoma was struck down as being unconstitutional. So I fail to see how such is evidence of a lack of religious freedom

Then please explain which race you're referring to.

If it is particular race that covers their heads, as you claim, it should be easy enough for them to stop doing it. It can't be that ingrained in their DNA.

If not, perhaps it is unwise for Muslims to emigrate to France.
That is an unbelievably western centric view.

The belief that we in the west are somehow superior i think is a fallacy in itself.

What does this have to do with the protests in France?
