No, he's caught between the Dems and the tea party. The dems are determined to force him to break promises he made. They wanted 100B and they were promised 72hr for bills to be posted online. That's not going to happen.

That's exactly what the riders do. We have to get back on track and defunding Obamacare is a big part of that process.

You are not going to defund the health care reform. You are not going to defund PP. You are not going to defund the EPA. Those things will not pass, the republicans knew they would not pass. Without a 2/3 majority in both houses, you cannot pass whatever you want. Furthermore, saying that defunding health care reform is part of the process of cutting spending ignores that health care costs are rising faster than inflation and ignores that most of the spending was payed for by cuts. It was roughly deficit neutral with the reality being it would add small amounts to the deficit.

If republicans want to control spending, they will actually work to come up with a bill that will get passed. If they do not do that, they are not serious about cutting spending. What they are doing, along with the democrats, is playing a game, seeing who gets hurt the most politically.

I thought that was Obama's department. That's something he won't have a hard time doing, unlike his love affair with abortions.

Obama praises defense cuts; GOP criticizes them hours later - CNN
One of the most sustained applauses during President Barack Obama's speech Tuesday night was in response to the need to cut back government spending.
But he got a tepid smattering of applause when he held up cuts proposed by the Department of Defense as a prime example.
"The secretary of defense has also agreed to cut tens of billions of dollars in spending that he and his generals believe our military can do without," Obama said in his State of the Union address.

Obama vows to veto short-term bill - Washington Times

The White House has vowed to veto the short-term spending bill House Republicans will vote on this afternoon, taking away the safety net that could have given both sides another week to avert a government shutdown.

Without a short-term extension, the options would be narrowed to either a broad successful deal or a shutdown as of midnight Friday.

If presented with this bill, the president will veto it, the White House said in an official statement of policy.
Let's not be disingenuous. We have are elected officials for that. You know why the President intends to veto the bill. The Regressives are trying to use the crisis to ram through their social agenda. It is not about extension, its about their ideology.

Geez, getting Dems to agree to cut spending is like pulling teeth. Mention spending of any kind and they are all for it.
House budget bill: House passes measure with $12 billion in cuts - latimes.com
Though there is broad agreement on the terms of the defense authorization bill, Democrats object to $12 billion in budget cuts that the measure calls for in the seven-day extension of funding for other areas of the government. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) called instead for a one-week extension at existing spending levels.

    From that CBO report:

As a result of changes in direct spending and revenues, CBO expects that enacting H.R. 2 would probably increase federal budget deficits over the 20122019 period by a total of roughly $145 billion, plus or minus the effects of technical and economic changes that CBO and JCT will include in the forthcoming estimate.
HR 2 is the amusingly named "Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act". So that is right, with HR2, the second bill passed by the house, they want to increase the deficit by more than they insist on cutting the deficit in this budget battle.
