Menino Bans Sugary Drink Sales On Boston City Property

BOSTON (CBS) – Mayor Tom Menino issued an executive order to ban the sale of sugary drinks on Boston city property on Thursday.
The mayor’s office said Menino is issuing this order because of the link between sugary drinks and rising obesity rates and health care costs.
Back in 2004, Menino banned soda and junk food from being sold in public school vending machines, and now he’s taking his battle city-wide.
“I want to make this a healthier choice, the easier choice in people’s daily lives, whether it’s the schools, the work sites or other places in the community,” Menino said.
The mayor hopes the city takes steps over the next six months to phase out the sale of sugary beverages on city property.

This has to be one of the most useless, dumb and frankly ignorant things I've ever heard of a Mayor doing.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

Change that to "The stupid police are out in force this week." and you nailed it.

I think this is stupid. Obesity is a problem, but you aren't going to solve it by getting rid of sugary drinks on city property.

This is going to be the order of the day soon and everywhere.

The Mayor is a Liberal and they all seem to be of the Nanny State mentality.

After all no one in the public has two brain cells to rub together and Liberal politicians can think for you much better than you can think for yourself.

The 68 year old Mayor is not a skinny little guy himself.

Did you happen to notice how there weren't any liberals here expressing support for the idea?

It's somewhat draconian and more of a statement than anything. I'd rather economics of food were changed to make healthier foods cheaper than the obesifying ones.

Slashing corn subsidies would do this nicely. It's the reason Pepsi is half the price of milk.
