Newt Gingrich warns U.S. at risk of atheism and radical Islam

As America has become more secularized, divorce has skyrocketed, unwed motherhood has skyrocketed, addictions of all natures have skyrocketed, personal irresponsibility in general has skyrocketed.

In fact, I believe the shrinking of the middle class in America can be directly attributed to the breakdown of family values.

As America has become more secularized, we have learned that a marriage foolishly entered into need not be a lifelong trap. As we no longer force women to rely on a man for economic stability, they have more choice, and the reasons that we expect for marriage apply less and less. Unwed motherhood has not skyrocketed. Doing it on purpose has increased, but now a woman has that option open to her. Addictions have not increased at all. If anything, we tolerate addiction less. There was an entire war dedicated to keeping China addicted to opium. That would never fly now.

As for personal responsibility... you might be right about that. But it's not because of a lack of morality. It's a lack of the sense that our actions matter. We're becoming obsolete and disposable. The shrinking middle class is because we're getting financially raped by the upper class, and as for family values... I don't even know what that means. We still form families. Families still protect and love each other. Not sure what family values you think are going away.

Glenn Beck does that , plus, faith, charity, honor, enlightenment etc.
He's called a crazy fear monger.

Did you just say Glenn Beck appeals to people's "loftier aspects like hope..." etc? Are you nuts?

Our divorce rates probably aren't bad. A lot of people don't even bother to get married, even when they have kids.

Our divorce rates are higher compared to that of other industrialized countries, but I concede your point that they marriage statistics may be different. Nevertheless I believe that it is moronic to attribute divorce rates and unwed pregnancy to secularism.

Not all atheists are intolerant, just a few bad apples.

I didn't say that, but most I have met are intolerant. Being "too smart" for religions and looking down their noses at the poor, misguided, ignorant religious folk. The only thing worse is intolerant people of faith.

What would you attribute it too then? Women's suffrage? Equal Opportunity?

I would say we look at it as ok to foolishly enter a marriage because we can always just get divorced.

He is a moron. He has also said that his infidelity was good because made him see Clintons for what it was or something similar. He is a lying piece of **** and always has been.

.

He displayed hypocrisy when he was conducting an extramarital affair at the same time he was attacking Clinton. But there is a huge difference. A couple actually. Newt didn't lie about it and he resigned. Clinton lied and didn't resign.

Having an affair is a lie. They both lied.

Maybe we need to find out how many times they mounted their other woman and see which one was the worst.

I think just once kind of stains you.

Exactly. It's no longer a situation where if you make a mistake and choose a partner who isn't right, you're stuck with it for the rest of your life. A system with no divorce, it's one strike and you're out. This was especially true for a woman. She has to marry to have financial stability. If she marries a man who later becomes a drunk and beats her, there's nothing she can do about it. Now she can kick his sorry ass to the curb and have another shot. A person you love with all your heart right now, that person can change a lot over the following ten years. Sometimes it just doesn't work out.

I agree to an extent, but we don't need drive-thru divorces either.

lol mac I know a lot of people who would disagree, especially given the **** a lot of married couples had to go through during this last recession. Divorces aren't fun man.

True....but not difficult to get....probably easier than spending the time to work things out is.

Guess we just fundamentally disagree. I'd much rather try and work things out than get into drawn-out disputes over money and custody of children. And I absolutely don't think people are getting married because they feel that it's easy to get a divorce. If things were that easy then why get married at all?

You're also looking at it from a middle to upper class perspective....

Lower economic class folks don't have as much to fight over, and are a big chunk of American divorces.

I would think poor and working-class folks have a lot more to fight over, especially when it comes to money. Just my two cents, i don't have any personal experience though i'm still a kid.

the majority of what makes a divorce difficult is fighting over custody, assets, and debt. the lower classes arent going to have a lot of assets...nor is custody usually a concern there. furthermore, neither party is likely to have the resources for a protracted legal battle and instead will settle most rhings by agreement.

No.

One lied.

One committed perjury, a felony for which he subsequently paid a court fine and was disbarred.

That's the key difference, not which holes were employed or how many times the humidor was opened.

That's a pretty stupid thing to say.

There are many Christian liberals.

Almost as stupid as saying that we'll be dominated by atheist radical Muslims.

What is the difference between Newt and a newt?

One is a slimy, cold blooded creature. The other is a species of amphibian.
