Radiation Traces Found in U.S. Milk

    MARCH 30, 2011, 8:52 P.M. ET
The U.S. government said Wednesday that traces of radiation have been found in milk in Washington state, but said the amounts are far too low to trigger any public-health concern.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said the government is working to bring the current nuclear crisis to a close without compromising the health of the Japanese people.
The Environmental Protection Agency said a March 25 sample of milk produced in the Spokane, Wash., area contained a 0.8 pico curies per literlevel of iodine-131, which it said was less than one five-thousandth of the safety safety guideline set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The EPA said it increased monitoring after radiation leaked from Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. It expects more such findings in coming days, but in amounts "far below levels of public-health concern, including for infants and children."
All this going on and people around here seem to have forgotten about Japan. We still have to deal with Japan, which is far more important that Libya.

Wait....what? Libya is in war and we're wasting tons of money on it. Japan suffered a major catastrophe and while we could send aid and such there's not going to be any amount of radiation which proves to be dangerous to us because of it. Let's not be stupid about this.

Wonder if cows have been eating/drinking iodine or what? Remember the river that magically turned green from pharmaceutical fluorescein + iodine? Scary, time to geiger all the milkz?!?!

Goldstream River turns bright GREEN: Radioactive disaster or a hoax? | Mail Online

Canada's Goldstream River failed to live up to its name when its waters bizarrely started flowing a fluorescent green.

The river, which runs through the city of Langford in British Columbia, looked like the result of a radioactive disaster and an investigation was launched immediately.

What caused the river to change colour was a mystery at first, but investigators swiftly discovered an organic compound used as a dye to test water systems was to blame.

If the melamine don't get ya the iodone 131 will. Guess my joke in another post about Anne Coulter serving up radioactive cocktales isn't so funny anymore. If we are seeing radioactive milk in America (and it is stems from Japan in reality) then I feel hyper-sorry for Japan.

The levels of radiation appearing in relation to Japan are, to my knowledge, no more a threat than the ambient radiation we are exposed to routinely.

I'm tired of the fearmongering. Unless Japan's reactors have a total meltdown, our shores are not at risk. If you want to talk about environmental disasters, then our media should be more focused on the aftermath of the Gulf oil spill. There are people contracting some serious diseases on the eastern seaboard right now.

How about the radiation the Japanese are facing?

Even then its not going to be a problem. Whatever was released would fall into the ocean before it reached our shore.

It's here in Britain, and it has to have passed by the US to get here on the prevailing winds.

Whatever the reports say the science doesn't mesh with it. There is no way radiation from Japan would reach the us or Britain or Scotland for that matter. I have no idea what is up with all this drivel reports but anyone with an ounce of knowledge on the subject knows its impossible for it to travel that far.

All I can say is if the radiation is real it has to have a different source that is closer.
