House Republicans seek IRS probe of AARP - Yahoo! News

AARP lobbied for the new health care law and now it stands to profit, Republican lawmakers charged Wednesday as they called for the IRS to investigate whether the powerful interest group representing older Americans should be stripped of its federal tax exemption.
Gotta make sure they're paying their fair share in taxes and not violating the tax code. Ain't that what the Leftists are all about?

Huh. I'm surprised they'd target a senior citizen special interest group, as the elderly are much more conservative than other groups and have higher voting numbers. I can't figure out the motivation behind this, it seems like the GOP shooting itself in the foot.

And I'm having a hard time resolving their making too much on insurance and fighting against insurance by supporting the health care bill.

    Isn't that contradictory?

Didn't AARP membership go down the toilet over the past couple of years?

Did you ever get off their mailing list? I kept returning all their junk back to them with a little note about Obamacare in their no postage necessary envelopes.

I think I actually agree with this probe. If a tax exempt organization sells something, they probably shouldn't be lobbying regarding that something. I also think that when membership is deeply divided over a controversial subject, they should probably bow out of the fray.

The time was simply not ripe for health care reform, and the problems at AARP are a symptom of it. People need to be further into the crisis before they accept the fact of trade offs in an area so emotionally charged.

I hate to see yet another split in America, though. And for this I blame Republican refusal to compromise
You can never be safe from a government that can keep you completely safe from each other and the world. You must choose.

    Refusal to compromise on what?

The GOP has ALWAYS hated seniors and sees them as moochers. They would love nothing more than to eliminate social security (They have been trying to do it for decades) and screw seniors to benefit their corporate bedbuddies.
