Abercrombie criticized for selling push-up tops to little girls

I think a strong parent has a better chance of influencing their child. I've seen fathers and mothers who have zero positive impact on their children and I've seen single mother and father who have had a great impact on them. One of my good friends was raised by a single mother and she is the farthest thing from a slut you could imagine.

I haven't made any generalizations. You have. And when you starting making generalizations like "women can't teach their daughters", you are the one with problem. I've never heard that generalizations and sexist comments are good signs of parenting.

I know a girl who was raised by a single mother, and she is also far from a slut... She waited until she was married. I think some girls see their mother in that situation and how hard it is, and they don't want to end up single and raising 2 or 3 kids in poverty so they wait to have babies and have sex.

And now she is single for life.

I doubt it. Her teenage years were controlled by him.

She moved to California from Nevada after that and went to work for a big company.

That is where I lost track of her.

The guys need to be taught that too, but I think it is more important with girls. Girls make the decisions where sex is concerned and they take home the consequence. You would be surprised how simple this rule makes things for kids, if they follow it.

Girls are taught to look pretty and be cute but very little is put into intelligence and values.

For example, every time I was at my ex-girlfriends house, she had a lot of nieces, the girls would come through the door and they would only be told how cute they were. Nobody ever asked how they were doing in school or ask them if they needed any help.

My friend has three very cute/ pretty daughters. It's difficult not to comment on that too much, but I know it's the wrong thing to do. So whenever I first see them I make a point to ask two of them about school, grades, activities. The little one, I ask about cartoons or something like that. Of course later, I can't resist commenting on how cute they look if they're wearing something new, or if their hair looks extra nice.
Seriously, I can remember exactly what you are talking about from when I was a kid. It seemed everyone I met had to commit on my looks first thing and didn't care about anything else. I didn't like it. So whenever I see that happening to other little girls, my stomache does a roll. People just need to wise up and realize they are doing harm.

My son is 5 1/2 right now so I have time with him.

Teenage boys seem easier to deal with, much less emotions controlling the thoughts.

Most Psychologists beg to disagree. In fact men during their teenage years actually have been shown to experience more powerful extremes of emotion whereas girls are actually more emotionally stable. Though due to the cultural stereotype that frowns upon men expressing their emotions fully most feel the need to conceal them.

I am tired of saying the s word in this thread... but maybe your attitude is the result of people you know and hangout with. In my household we tell the girls they are smart, we talk to them about their grades, and we help them study. Education is important... In fact, the majority of college students today are women, not men. An intelligent woman is not a rare species.

Abercrombie should be criticized for selling clothes like this. It may be wrong for the government to get involved, but doesn't mean society can't criticize unethical behavior. Sexualizing children is wrong and corporations who sell products which enable such behavior should be treated like anyone else who who sells out their morals for a buck.

Has no one mentioned a boycott yet?

I agree completely. In my house, at my high school and at my college, intelligence was just as valued in women as in men and education/good grades were stressed very hard. It depends on the people...

Ohh please... so now you're telling me that females are emotional, irrational creatures?

The majority of women study liberal arts. And most liberal arts are unemployed after college.

While you may talk to your daughters like that. Most parents do not. Women are told to be stupid and follow 90210.

Yeah, that description fits my experiences with them.

The people who would boycott already are boycotting. Abercrombie has been selling sexualized clothing since it was created. Sometimes when you walk in the door - the people who greet you are shirtless men and bikini wearing women - the sex of it all is pretty obvious. The parents who don't mind go there and the parents who d mind don't.

How dare people sell clothing that other people choose to buy. This is an outrage.

You got something right...for a change. How 'bout that? :lamo

I have never seen parents encourage their daughters to be stupid...

You are either out of touch or trolling.

Nobody said intelligent women are rare. However, education and learning are not properly emphasized to young children, especially girls.

Yeah, that description fits my experiences with them.

You're probably drawl to them... A logical and reasonable woman may not prefer your company...

I was not saying they encourage them to be stupid. I was saying that they are not talked to as equals as to sons.

This is honestly the exact opposite of the environment I was raised in and the schools I went to - education was emphasized for everybody. It depends on who you know and where you are.

Well, yes, and some little girls are taught to play football and fart loudly. I'd say those are the minority, though.

I honestly don't know why some of you guys are saying this... I have never been ignored in a classroom, or discouraged to pursue an education or study a field because of my gender. I have never heard of a woman in this day and age being told, no... you shouldn't get a phd, just get a nursing degree. That's too much work for a woman... I have only heard of that happening in certain settings like religious settings, but that's about it. It's not typical where I am from, and I am from the north...

Other than that, I know some females feel discouraged in math and science... but the same can be said about males in English and literature... We can do better. As a nation, our performance in education isn't very impressive compared to the rest of the world.

My sister's hobby was auto mechanics in highschool and she worked in the auto lab for her electives... She farts pretty loud too btw.
