Dear GOD!!!!!!! 10 MILLION times the normal level!!!! This is going to effect America in some way. This is going to kill anything around it! Those poor Japanese people :(

Tokyo Electric Power Company says it has detected radioactive materials 10-million-times normal levels in water at the No.2 reactor complex of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

The plant operator, known as TEPCO, says it measured 2.9-billion becquerels of radiation per one cubic centimeter of water from the basement of the turbine building attached to the Number 2 reactor.

The level of contamination is about 1,000 times that of the leaked water already found in the basements of the Number 1 and 3 reactor turbine buildings.

The company says the latest reading is 10-million times the usual radioactivity of water circulating within a normally operating reactor.

Looks like another Chernobyl to me....

Looks like another Chernobyl to me....

Nah, Chernobyl had no casing and just spewed everything we have contained here right now into the air. It's pretty much impossible for something like Chernobyl to happen again.

On the subject of the OP, I had just read this in bloomberg. I'm wondering how that's effecting the workers' abilities to keep the pumps and stuff going.

Once they get the cooling under control they may have to bury at least one of these reactors similar to Chernobyl.

One thing that is troubling is the contamination of the ocean near by. I have no clue if that area was heavily fished commercially but any fish in that location will either die off or be contaminated and not be available for human consumption/

Fish raw and other wise is important in Japan and any reduction along with the damage we saw in the Tsunami flooding farm land is going to make for food shortages for some time to come.

I just hope the Cascadia fault the runs from Washington to Northern California does not produce the 9 or mare quake Geologists say is way over due with the last one hitting in 1700. The resulting Tsunami would wipe out Seattle and just every city on the coast, killing hundreds of thousands.

It seems to me that the plant is a lost cause and they need to bury the whole place. I hope the best for the Workers and the Japanese People.

They already decided to bury the reactors when they pumped sea water into the units. End of story, that. They're going ot dismantle them and throw them away or bury them in place.

They're in deep doo-doo if those contaminated waters leech into the local aquifer. They'll have to dig out until they've isolated the source of the contamination and that's going to cost a fortune and be so incredibly dangerous to all the personal working the task.

Yet, if they're pouring sea water in, and Mayor Snorkum has no reason to believe existing piping systems to provide recirculative cooling are still intact, they're leaking contamination out through the bottom of any breached reactor vessel and into the ground water. They'll need to be digging pumping stations like crazy that can push clean sea water into the aquiver near the Dai-Ichi plants to ensure the water flow is away from the land and towards the sea. Otherwise their land will be poisoned for centuries.

Yeah, and the salt water won't be wonderful, either.

The report of 10 million times normal levels of radiation has already been retracted. It was an error.
