RIP: Former Vice-Presidential Nominee Geraldine Ferraro Dies

Although I never agreed with her politics she was a pioneer and loyal American, and deserves our our admiration and respect.

Wasn't she a democrat? I'm watching Sarah Palin pay tribute to her close friend. And she seems to have known her very well. Of course they are both women who ran for vice president.

I remember her as a very likable woman, certainly eligible to be vice president. She was 75.

I'm sorry to say, I didn't realize she was in poor health.

It's hard to keep up with the health of every old celebrity/important public figure in America. I doubt most people even knew or cared about the state of her health until today, simply wasn't within the media consciousness.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

She had an amazingly rare quality for a woman. She was as likeable as a man. She was a Democrat of the old fashioned variety I believe. I didn't agree with her politics but she was never obnoxious. She spoke with great clarity and intelligence.

There are plenty of male politicians who are plain repulsive and obnoxious. Just sayin'

I've always felt that women are like cats, complicated, unpredictable, mysterious, moody, catty. Men are like dogs, simple, predictable, easy, steady and loyal. Of course that's a generalization but I've found it pretty accurate in my experience. Masculinity and feminity are a spectrum rather than two sides of a coin. My favorite women are those like Maggie Thatcher and Geraldine Ferraro who don't exhibit much of what I call the catty nature.

    I admired Ferraro's graciousness tremendously.

It's true, women gotta make things so damn complicated sometimes. When it comes to politics though, I think women are generally at a disadvantage because skillful politicians like Hillary are viewed as cold bitches when they attempt to project themselves to be as strong as men. I wasn't alive when Ferraro ran for VP so I can't comment on her personality or attitude.
