Canadian government falls, election set for May

that's just awful.

Liblady, there are many similar stories, all are heart wrenching, and as a result no one really wants to post them. But the irony in this story was just too strong to avoid.

And please keep in mind that there is no legal recourse for these tragedies, only neverending promises of improvement.

For every heart wrenching, fall through the cracks story from Canadian and/or British healthcare, I can easily find one from the US. It proves nothing aside the point that none are perfect.

Don't understand how people who don't live in Canada can judge a system they have not experienced. Much of what I have seen in the media is inaccurate.

I have never experienced what is written about the Canadian system. Today I had a doctor's appointment. Walked in handed over my health card. Received my exam. Received a form to get an ultra sound. Left. None of this I had to pay for. I won't even have to pay for the ultra sound. I have also had a variety of other tests run recently and didn't have to pay for those either.

Now when I say I didn't have to pay....I fully realize that I have paid through my taxes. Which is fine with me. Would rather walk in and out without having to figure out can I afford this exam....never mind the tests or procedures that may be needed!

No, none are perfect. That's why a great deal of thought has to go into any government run enterprise. There are many pitfalls to avoid and some of them glaringly obvious. The first is that the government cannot, over the long term, manage anything.

LOL, we are back at square one. The Canadian government does not run our healthcare. Hospitals and clinics can do whatever hell they want with the funding they receive.

Right.

Canada has a completely free enterprise health care system with no government involvement whatsoever.

Be stupid someplace else, ok?

Why not note for the Green Party? I have repeatedly heard from people that they don't like the leaders of the other 3 main parties. So why not? Sends a message.

I don't know how I can make it any clearer:

Socialized Insurance, Not Socialized Medicine

Canada has a universal health care system that's paid for through income taxes and sales tax. All Canadians are covered, and they can see any doctor they want anywhere in the country with no copays or deductibles. Some things aren't covered: optometry, dentistry and outpatient prescription drugs. Many Canadians have private insurance to cover those services, though some struggle to pay for them out of pocket.

U.S. critics of Canadian health care like to call it socialized medicine, but it's more like socialized insurance — meaning the risk is pooled together. And while the individual provinces and territories set their overall health budgets and administer the health plans, the delivery of medical care is private. Doctors run their own businesses and then bill the government.

I have flirted with that idea, but I like the NDP constituent in my riding, so I am going to vote for him. He does not have a chance to win, though, as the Liberal constituent is going after his 8th term. I would like nothing better than to see him lose, but I don't think it will happen.
