For a song, Willie’s pot case will be resolved

IERRA BLANCA – The Hudspeth County Attorney is ready to make a plea deal with the Red Headed Stranger.

“I’m gonna let him plead, pay a small fine and he’s gotta sing “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” with his guitar right there in the courtroom,” County Attorney Kit Bramblett said this week. “You bet your ass I ain’t gonna be mean to Willie Nelson.”
Yup, don't mess with Willie. He's God in Texas (Not to mention one of my favorite musicians). But that poses a dilemma. What about all those other people who got busted for a little pot, and are now rotting in jail? Do you think it's fair to them that they do serious time, while Willie gets off scott free? So, what do we do? Some might say "Give Willie what's coming to him". I disagree. Instead, I will say "Decriminalize marijuana in Texas, and empty the jails of those who got there by smoking a little weed". That way, everybody wins, including law enforcement, who can then go after real criminals.

Willie told a story a few years back about how hw was at the White House of Bill Clinton and went out on the Balcony and smoked a joint. Nothing came of it.

In 1973 I lived in Dallas and a guy got 10 years for a roach in his ash tray. Texas had a tough policy on all drugs back then and everyone I knew was a smoker. Most of my employees were smokers and everyone knew Willie was one as well.

If the law is good for one it should be good for all.

Pot is not a gateway drug or we would have a hell of a time getting anything done.
