I don't think his stances would change if he switched parties (at least I hope not - that's a betrayal of your principles). He's from WV so of course he's against cap and trade. So is rockefeller.
I'm interested to see how he will vote 2 years from now if he wins re-election. He may be putting on a ruse so he could get elected again.

Seriously, don't nominate Palin. She has no chance, and the arena would become a circus.

Actually, I personally would vote for a Republican for President if I think he'd do a good job. Gingrich, Palin, Bachmann, Huckabee...never. Romney, possibly, although he has some flip-flop and honesty issues.

I don't know yet. When the dust settles a little, going into the primary election, hopefully there will be someone in the field who is worthy. Texas' governor? Barbar? Jindall? It may turn out that most of the current possibilities just won't be there. Same for the Democrats.

I know the feeling, just like those around here labeling themselves "moderates" or "Independants"

Independents can be left or right leaning - they just choose not to associate with any brand names. Bernie Sanders is a socialist, but he can still call himself an independent as much as an anarchist could.

Anarchists don't like meetings. They like anarchy
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.
