Yeah, but those pesky elections, they swing from one party to another. And I don't hear much about new bills to phase out social security or do many of the other meaningful things that would really make a difference with the debt, so where are the responsible Republicans? The ones who were elected to make a difference, and compel people to continue voting for them? Have they started that 'conversation' yet, the one about social security and medicare? Haven't heard them discussing that yet.

Perhaps she also occasionally says intelligent things, which is why she has some widespread support. Or do you think her suppporters believe stupid things?

In fact they have and if you were to follow the platform of both parties you'd quickly become aware of these 'conversations'.

No. What I said was people only know her name because of the stupid things she says in front of cameras.

Don't know or care what her supporters believe.

You did notice earlier in the thread where I made a positive comment on her intelligence? She is smart. But she says stupid things. Therefore she would be a bad choice for a national candidate.

I did see where the Republicans voted for privatization, which is okay with me. But do they have the balls to really do something about the entitlements? I guess we'll see.

A lot depends on whether or not they have public support.

If the public demands entitlements and the politicians want to keep their jobs then the entitlements will continue and the debt will grow larger. It's a Ponzi scheme.

If the majority of the public believes they can borrow their way to prosperity and that the government can look after them then the republic will cease to be viable. It's really as easy and straightforward as that.

Rioters and protesters get a lot of publicity and create fear among most politicians as do those who say the government is "heartless". Is it possible to find enough strong and honest people to stand up against them? Those who stand up for fiscal responsibility will be swimming against the current, that's certain.
