New milestone: 1 in 6 Americans is Hispanic

With respect, making such wrongful assumptions and generalizations is racist. Racism doesn't necessarily have to do with inferiority.

No it's not.
It's dumb and prejudicial but it is not racist.

Racism is the believe that one race is inherently superior to another.
A racist comment would be, "These there Mexercans are all ignant."

I have come to hate the term racist, because it seems like it's always an automatic Godwin.

Without inferiority, it would more accurately be called a stereotype.

He made the presumption that a high population of Hispanics is inherently a bad thing, and there's no distinction between illegal Mexicans and Americans

He made the presumption that all those Hispanics were illegal, which is completely stupid.
He failed to read it before he went ballistic.

I stand corrected.

Touche. But, if the assumption is that most or all Hispanics are illegal, and illegals are somehow inferior to American citizens, could that be potentially construed as somewhat racist?

Even then it wouldn't because Hispanic is an ethnic group and not a race.
Hispanics are white and I know Noodle is white, as well.

So even my example is wrong.

Nah, Hispanics are typically White, Mestizo or American Indian.
The majority being the first 2.

After a little digging it appears you are correct (man I never realized that I was so clueless bout race)

From Wikipedia:

Hispanic and Latino Americans - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reflecting especially the Latin American population, which has origins in all the continents and many ancestries,[5] Hispanic/Latino Americans are very racially diverse, and as a result form an ethnic category, rather than a race.[4][6][7][8] The choice of name depends on geography: Hispanic and Latino Americans who reside in the eastern United States tend to prefer the term Hispanic, whereas those in the west usually prefer Latino.[3]

Race is pretty much a social construct, with artificially-created categories so I'm not really surprised that it's difficult to delineate those categories.

The assumption that most Hispanics are illegal immigrants is a stereotype.

Having an unfavorable opinion of illegal immigrants is probably rooted in the fact that one believes they are breaking the law, cheating, etc and should be punished.

The stereotype results in a prejudice towards Hispanics, not racism.

Edit: Oops, I see you already agree, wait i don't know, never mind.

It's crazy isn't it.
Not trying to be a stickler but some people typically use "racism" as a means to destroy debate.
I know you weren't but it's always something that annoys me.

Well I think drz make a good point about the false equivalency between prejudice and racism which is a mistake that a lot of people (yours truly included) are guilty of making.

I agree with your point that racism and prejudice are not the same. However, when one assumes most Hispanics to illegal, and holds unfavorable prejudicial views on illegal Hispanics, they could potentially be viewing an entire group of people as inferior. Now if an individual holds such attitudes, I think it could fairly be characterized as racism, except for the minor problem of Harry's brilliant point that Hispanic/Latino is not a race. Man, this is confusing the **** outta me lol.

I confused too, I guess its pretty close. Either way it is incorrect reasoning.

I'd say, "Do you have an ethnic prejudice?"
That doesn't necessarily get the same feel as other words.

Well back to the point, I really don't see a problem with 1 in 6 Americans being Hispanics and Noodle shouldn't be totally freaking out.

So, in my opinion, nothing to see here, these aren't the droids you're looking for.

First most Mexicans are Mestizo which is a mix of Spanish and Mexican Indian. There certainly some Mexicans that are white with blond hair even. They are from Spanish without any Indian blood, I have friends that are of both persuasions.

I am very prejudice against illegals and it had nothing to do with race, because I have know illegals from Iran, Canada, France and England and well as Mexico and I have no use for any of them.

Tens of thousands of (OTM) other than Mexicans are caught every year and most have been released. We're talking thousands every damn year, and they cost us Billions every year when you add in the Mexicans, and we can't afford it.

It's called taking over a country without firing a single shot...

Muslim strategy over at Europe and Hispanic resolve in the US

Who makes more babies...will eventually make the rules

It's official folks. Brown people have replaced the "Yellow Peril" as the most dangerous enemy to America.

How fitting that you went on an anti-illegal immigrant tirade as a result of an article called "1 in 6 Americans is Hispanic" as though that were such a horrible thing. But I'm sure that anti-illegal immigrants will continue to swear that they aren't racist even as they post **** like this.

Your rant is illogical AND foolish! I have personal friends that are hispanic (i think they are all mexican actually). I have said many times I LIKE the hispanic / mexican culture! Its very much like Italians (which I can relate because Im italian). You are assuming Kandahar. And you know what THAT can do.
I would say you are trolling but Ive not seen you do that before. I agree with you 80% of the time. But THIS time you are WAYYYYY off man.
It is SOOOOOOO easy to say people are racist on this topic. Heck... there ARE racists that agree with me. But I dont agree with them.
This is just like Star Trek 6.

I feel we need to kick out as many illegals in this Country as possible and as soon as possible. And if an illegal mexican pops out an anchor baby, that baby is NOT a citizen of this Country. This is an invasion people! Why we arent doing anything about it is INSANE!!! You folks like getting your tax dollars robbed and eating tacos THAT much!?!?

How racist can you get. And yes, you are racist.

Who cares if they are hispanic? All I care about is if they are legal.

Your ancestors aren't native to this continent so STFU.

Hey kid, see my last post in this thread ;)
You owe me an appology.

You owe me an appology.

I owe you nothing. So what if you have some hispanic friends. That doesn't clear you of being racist.

You clearly made a correlation in your OP between 1 in 6 Americans being hispanic and the illegal immigration problem.

The majority of hispanic Americans are here legally or they were BORN here and are thus no more or less American than you are.
