Gives the gov't of Mexico an easy out?? You think the gov't of Mexico WANTS massive emigration out of their country? lol
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

I don't think Mexico sees it that way. I am against illegal immigration because, by definition, those who come to the country illegally are criminals. If you can't respect our laws, I don't want you here.

However, lumping the vast majority of hispanics here legally with those here illegally is just stupid and insulting to those who are here legally.

Its based on Census data. That data was collected regardless if the they were here illegally or not. The govt said they can NOT take legal action on the illegal latinos. So the articles title is VERY misleading. Those statistics INCLUDED illegal hispanics. About 20 millions of those hispanics are here illegally and they are NOT Americans even though the author titled it as such. Why is this so ****ing difficult to understand!?! Hell my cats understand it.

That's kind of because they know there is no way to stop those who want to cross the border no matter what. In which case it would be nice to not have people starve to death or die of thirst when crossing the desert.

Edit: Unless you are a country like India or China (maybe some other Asian nations) that is having an overpopulation issue, it makes absolutely NO SENSE for you to encourage mass emigration. For the state, the people are ultimately an asset, not a liability.

All I'm saying nothing in the article justified your rant against illegals in the OP. The article was about the Hispanic population, not the illegal population (except tangentially).

There are between 7 and 20 million illegal aliens in the US, with about half being from mexico, and 2/3 total if you include the rest of latin america. so that is about 5 to 14 million, call it roughly 10 million. There are about 52 million hispanics in the US. Good job on lumping about 42 million american citizens in with the illegals.

In that case it's the Republicans' fault for not doing a better job of trying to capture the Hispanic vote, not the fault of Hispanics for being here.

"In the NAFTA era, a staggering 87 percent of Mexico's imports go to the United States, while Mexicans living in the United States send home more than $8 billion annually. Fox has said he considers his constituency to include the 22 million to 24 million Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the United States. Mexican candidates now make campaign stops in U.S. cities like Los Angeles, Phoenix and Fresno, Calif." (Mexico's muddle, Ruben Navarrette Jr., March 26, 2003)

It's an interesting article at link.
