Because I wanted to, I reckon. When was I going to get another chance to photograph dudes that I had personally wasted?

i'm not sure how to respond to that other than to ask why you would want to keep a photograph of it. wouldn't it be embedded in your memory anyway. it's not like you would ever forget?

The words, 'sick f***' came to mind when I read that. He actually seems to think it's cool to 'waste' people.

When they are the enemy and it's me, or them, then yes, it's very cool. I don't expect you to understand.

Ya know, if you are not capable of pulling a trigger when a trigger needs to be pulled, under any circumstances in any environment - simply do not sign the ****ing paper.

it's war. i don't think any reasonable person would not understand that if it was your life or theirs you would choose yours.

why you would want a souvenir of the killing is what i don't understand. i've seen plenty of dead people and not once have i had the urge to photograph it. it's not like you need a physical reminder of what you've seen. you don't forget.

I'm totally fine with taking a life when it comes to wartime and would have no problem pulling the trigger. Taking pleasure in it is another matter.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.
