ASBURY PARK — The century-old Bangs Avenue School … renamed for President Barack Obama just a year ago … will be closed as a neighborhood school this summer, largely because of a steep slide in the district's total enrollment the past decade.
"The fiscal monitor gave the board every opportunity to make a decision,'' Giberson added. "Last night (Wednesday) the Board of Education forced the state monitor's hand.''

Hey, they have to meet their state budget requirements. But this is what you call poetic justice.

Well, that's a little bit embarrassing. :3oops:

It's good for school districts to clean up and consolidate for the sake of excellence. Nice they didn't treat it as a sacred cow.

I wish they'd do the same with the teachers.

What kind of fools would rush to name a school after someone with no track record in the first place?

Seems a little foolish.

I agree just about everything everyone has posted so far.

Why shouldn't a school fail when it's named for a failed person?

This is like naming a plane "Amelia Earhart".

Schools are often named after people and this has little bearing on anything. Why would it have bearing on whether or not the school closes?

It doesn't.

But you have to admit, it's kinda funny. Usually it doesn't close quite this quickly; it's not like Booker T. Washington closed it doors.

This is not Breaking News material whatsoever...

The school is a hundred years old. Quickly?

The same kind of fools who'd award a Nobel Peace Prize in expectation of a messianic miracle in the Middle East?

Prolly the same fools who gave him the Nobel Peace Prize. Ack! Hairball coming.

So quickly after being renamed...

Have a lot of data on schools being closed after renaming, do ya? Strange hobbies, my friend ;)

Kind of a funny thought here. Obama was named Commander in Chief of the US Military when he took office. Is our military going to close down? Damn, that "Kenyan" is hurting our nation in ways I don't know, and in ways that I can quickly make up as I go along.
