U.S. Seeks UN Resolution Authorizing Strikes on Libya

U.S. Seeks UN Resolution Authorizing Strikes on Libya - FoxNews.com

The Obama administration is pushing for a Thursday vote on a UN Security Council resolution authorizing airstrikes and other measures to stop the the regime of Libyan leader Col. Muammar al-Qaddafi from killing civilians in Libya.

The move comes as Qaddafi forces have made "significant strides" in Libya, the State Department said.

The U.S. wants the Security Council to approve planes, troops or ships to stop attacks by Qaddafi on the rebels, according to a diplomat familiar with closed-door negotiations.

The Obama administration said it would not act without Security Council authorization, did not want to put U.S. ground troops into Libya, and insists on broad international participation, especially by Arab states, the diplomat said.
If we go into Libya, I wonder if the 'no blood for oil' people will come out and protest, hanging Obama in effigy, burning his photo, calling him Hitler, etc., like they did for Bush? I think not.

Also, if the Obama administration goes into Libya without UN authorization, what will the general reaction be here in the states?

He won't do that. He sucks up to the UN like Monica sucked Bill.

But I still don't know on what basis we have to go in. I mean, it's not our war. Either we are the world police and we stop regimes like this, or we are not, and we stay the hell out. Well, either way I support our troops!

To compare Libya and Iraq is such a fallacy it defies imagination.

I know. I mean two brutal dictators who kill thousands of their own people in an oppressed regime, nothing similar there.

    How foolish to compare them.

You are absolutely right that there are absolutely no significant differences. Iraq was in the violent throes of a homegrown rebellion when we went in Iraq. The rebellion in Iraq was fueled by grassroots organization inside the country with connections to other grassroots movements in neighboring countries.
Absolutely no meaningful differences between the two situations at all.
    I may be wrong.

You seem to think I was comparing Iraq to Libya. I was not.

I was comparing the reactions of the masses between what happened when Bush went into Iraq, and what might happen if Obama goes into Libya... not the conflicts themselves.

Ah logic dictates the reaction would be different because the two situations are different

Re: U.S. Seeks UN Resolution Authorizing Strikes on Libya

Is this asking the UN to perform the strikes or asking permission for the US to do it on its own?
