U.S. Seeks UN Resolution Authorizing Strikes on Libya

According to what I am reading, Britain, France, and some Arab countries.
Guess that answers my question.

.

No, no I won't. It can no longer be the responsibility of the U.S. To be the world's enforcer. We can no longer afford to do it, and the sooner we pull back, the better we'll be able to get our own house in order.

Please switch to de-cafe.

Furthermore, I want to see an Exit Strategy.

Well unless you're suggesting that American troops are going to be put on the ground (which I niether support, nor which will happen) I'd say your partisan point is moot and void.

I'm really sorry George The Boy King was blasted for Iraq.

But. It was deserved. Sorry Champ.

No going into battle without an exit strategy.

To have an exit strategy.

You must have an entry strategy.

Aircraft flying over land. Is not forces occupying land....

Try again sport :coffeepap
I got your sport right here.

So, no ground troops according to the president. I hope there's no slip and slide in this action.

Do we not have a burgeoning debt and budget deficit? One that almost everyone believes is a huge problem? I am merely asserting that the way to address this is through reduced military spending, which is a HUGE part of our budget, is it not? And, furthermore, do we not spend several times more on our military budget than any other nation? Why do we do that? Surely, this big government military outlay is the real reason we are in financial trouble. Surely this money that we spend on the military would be better left in the hands of private citizens, no?

So are you asking questions or answering your own?

Obama, that ****ing warmonger.....where the hell is his congressional declaration of war? Hmmm?????? Where the **** is it?
He doesn't need it. We'e acting as an agent of the UN. HA! Hadn't you heard? Joke is on us again. It will be interesting to think ahead and imagine if US troops will make up part of the UN "peacekeeping force". The UN always votes to send in a peacekeeping force when there is no peace yet to keep. The UN...making the Middle East safe for another Sunni v. Shiite 1000 years war.

It's like Korea. That wasn't a war, but a lot of fine Americans died there. It was a UN "police action".
GET US OUT OF THE UN! is the oldest bumper sticker on my van.

No it is not, and further it is Constitutional to have a military and to use it. Added to that our military has enable the world to live in relative peace and prosperity. Thank our military for that... every ****ing day champ. Think of what would have happened if we didn't have the military we do, and the Commi's or some other idiots were running things! You'd have a 3-holer out back, and I'm not talking about your private golf course. Prosperity would be having toothpaste, deoderant and real toilet paper, not the NYT/Pravda.

You really want to get our debt in control, look at the socialist Ponzi/Madoff Schemes. The tsunami is just reaching the shore too, as the first Baby Boomers retired this year and there is no cash in the box to pay for the upcoming destruction this wave will create. And you'll have to want to repeal ObamaKare, another costly mess of government intervention.

I do not understand how people fail to look a the destruction and waste government has wrought everywhere they have gone. That giving the government money, and running it through their machinery, turning a dollar into 25cents is effective. It's like giving a crack whore money and telling her to buy food... fat chance.

Nobody has vandalized your ride?! You must not have a Bush/Cheney sticker on it :)

My favorite van stickers are: "NO knock'in while the van's a rock'in" followed with "Don't laugh, your daughter is in here".

There is no doubt that what Ike called the military-industrial complex is still alive and well in the old USofA. Having stated that some follow-up comment is needed.

In reality, which is hard for liberals to come to grasp with, it always will be. The reason is that defense contractors COMPLETELY dependent upon GOOBERMENT appropriations will corrupt politicians with all manner of bribes that can easily be concealed. Given that reality the best we can do is have some monitoring of how military appropriations are put together balanced against REAL strategic needs. The more public the better.

To naively believe that we can straighten out our financial house on the back of the Defense Dept is to be patently ignorant of reality. The entitlement programs, important as they have become to the majority of citizens, arer the main sucking sound for our real dollars. Did you know that our yearly federal budget deficit is projected to reach 8.3 percent of gross domestic product by the year 2020—more than three times the historical average of 2.3 percent. This increase will be exclusively the result of increasing spending, not declining revenues (or the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts). The uncontrolled rapid growth of entitlement programs, meaning Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid along with the interest payments on the national debt will cause virtually all of this new spending. Any sustainable fix must therefore address the source of the problem—rapidly rising entitlement spending, not assault our defense budget as a viable alternative as it is NOT THAT AT ALL. This information is culled from this source and should be required reading for liberals as it is founded in cold, hard financial facts, not pie-in-the-Alice in Wonderland-sky theology.

DISCLAIMER: The following comment is a frank observation by one adult to another and should not be taken to be trolling, baiting, flaming, DBAJ or any other personal abuse manner that mods here seem to think is every comment I make. Adult people are responsible for the opinion content of their posts and fair criticism delivered in measured sarcasm is quite appropriate considering that "civility a MUST" as a basic precept is respected. I can easily be banned, but overly aggressive moderating is the guaranteed way to ruin these forums long after I'm gone.

I find it hypocritically revealing that someone who espouses taking out our multi-TRILLION $$$ deficit on the back of the military budget must be navigating through life convinced that we have already attained nirvana...Peace In Our Time. We are far from that laddie and I cannot help, but notice that such an assumption is being made by one who selects a snake as their avatar. Quite the contrarian aren't you? One might observe that your bark hath neither bite nor budgetary support.

No, I won't. It will make no difference to me if they screw it up, with respect to how I feel about what we should do. I have already accepted that, without our leadership, the world's downtrodden may not do as well.

I think paying down our debt is more important than expensive adventures.

The world's downtrodden will should not be waiting for the U.S. or anyone else to help them. What's eerily familiar about this no-fly zone?

Fox News said:
Announcing new international measures Friday against Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, President Obama called it "just one more chapter in the change that is unfolding across the Middle East and North Africa." But some of the president's announcement seemed to take a page from a similarly historic announcement by his predecessor -- even though one senior White House official said making any connection is "reading too much into it."

Obama closed Friday's remarks by saying, "I've taken this decision with the confidence that action is necessary, and that we will not be acting alone. Our goal is focused. Our cause is just. And our coalition is strong."

Nearly a decade earlier, when President George W. Bush announced that U.S. forces were launching military strikes in Afghanistan, Bush said: "To all the men and women in our military ... I say this: Your mission is defined. Your objectives are clear. Your goal is just." Bush used similar wording in other remarks at the time.

Good timing that you should say that. Last week I came out of a store and noticed that my 2nd Amendment blue and white sticker has a corner pulled away on it. I looked about and spotted a guy about late 20s walking away at about 100' distance I got in my van, started it up and turned slowly around so as not to spook him and then gunned it for him. It was a shopping center and he changed course and ran behind the supermarket building at full sprint with me catching up quickly. An 18 wheeler, likely just having made a delivery was just starting up so he panicked and jumped up on the 6' metal chain-link fence and went over it into a residential backyard running. I jumped out yelling that I'd get his ass next time and then noticed a shred of his shirt on the rusty fence and a trickle of blood below it. That made my day.

P.S. - Though a conservative I was no fan of Little Georgie-boy Bush. He singlehandedly created the lousy leadership that allowed the Republican Party to fracture and be taken over by the McNasty RINO contingent. Worst Republican President in the modern era in my opinion.
That made my day!

Not according to Michael Moore....

Moore from a McDonald's in WI said:
America is not broke.

Contrary to what those in power would like you to believe so that you'll give up your pension, cut your wages, and settle for the life your great-grandparents had, America is not broke. Not by a long shot. The country is awash in wealth and cash.

I am merely asserting that the way to address this is through reduced military spending, which is a HUGE part of our budget, is it not?

Yep, military spending is a very large part of our Constitutionally approved spending. I say we start with what is NOT called for constitutionally first.

And, furthermore, do we not spend several times more on our military budget than any other nation?

So what? If you want to live in a nation where they spend less so you can feel better about military spending, then go there.

Why do we do that?

Because everyone is always after No. 1

Surely, this big government military outlay is the real reason we are in financial trouble.

Oh yeah, it couldn't be the so called war on poverty, or welfare, or bloated pensions, or a myriad of liberal unconstitutional spending that goes on could it?

Surely this money that we spend on the military would be better left in the hands of private citizens, no?

You are ridiculous. And here I thought liberals didn't like Militias.

Sounds like conservatives would rather continue enriching the bloated military industry through government largesse and instead impoverish the middle and lower classes in their old age, gut the education system that has provided the prosperity we all enjoy, and let the poor die in the streets from disease and injury. This is their solution to the budget problems. Completely unsurprising, as I stated earlier. You do realize that when we become less prosperous through all this kind of stupidity that we will then have to cut the military budget after all, right? Or that the rich will be forced to pay a hugely progressive tax in order to support it?

Not this conservative... and what's all your hyperbole have to do with Libya and the no-fly zone exactly? And shouldn't you be complaining about how Obama has adopted almost 100% of the G.W. Bush foreign policy including taking part in bombing yet another Mulsim nation?

I realize that the idea of cutting military spending seems like low hanging fruit to the average liberal, but what they never seem to ponder is that this country had occupants before the new tenants moved in.
"How was this possible", you say?
Because their defense was weak, they were conquered by superior technology.
They could have been exterminated if it were the will of the superior force.
I can't understand those who think that fate couldn't befall us if we do not keep our edge.
"Those who forget the past are destined to repeat it"
Those who would weaken this country by cutting military strength so we can have healthcare for illegal immigrants are traitors.
