Here' your precious ACORN, lefties. You should be so very proud of them.

Woman Claims ACORN Continues to Deduct Money for a Now-Defunct Membership - FoxNews.com

A Delaware woman says ACORN as recently as two weeks ago deducted money from her bank account, despite countless efforts to cancel her membership with the now-bankrupt community housing organization...

She says she paid ACORN $10 a month in automatic withdrawals from her credit union checking account for the membership. ACORN started collecting her money, but she never heard from them, so she went directly to her lender to fix the problem with her home mortgage...

She tried several times to cancel the payments but never heard back from any of ACORN’s offices, including the office in Wilmington, where she lives...

...the withdrawals of $10 a month continued for two years, totaling more than $200...

Joseph W. Shulter, a bankruptcy attorney in San Antonio, tells FoxNews.com that under Chapter 7 bankruptcy, it is illegal for ACORN to continue collecting funds from members...

Schwartz says on April 1, 2010, ACORN leaders sent out a letter to all members that they were shutting down operations. “Anyone who wanted to cut off their withdrawals, they could.” He says instructions on how to cancel the membership were in the letter.

ACORN hasn’t had any active accounts withdrawing funds since August 2010. As for Sheldon’s case, he said it’s possible Sheldon mistakenly signed her account over to a new organization...
Doesn't sound like it, based on this woman's comments and the other information in the article.

This 'community organization' charged poor people for helping them! DISGUSTING. The officers should probably all be in jail

Alot of organizations do this.

It's common practice actually.

My friend got burned like this by the World Vision for gods sake.

Doesn't make it right. But it's not only ACORN that pulls this crap.

Bastards.

She needs to hire a lawyer and sue the dog **** out of them.

That's what we can expect from all the Liberal do-gooders. Afterall, it isn't really about helping people, it's all about politics.

Has NOW come to Sarah Palin's defense, at all? Nope! That's what makes all these Liberal do-gooders a ****ing joke.

Agreed - this is fairly common. Some company's / organization BANK on a certain % of people either not cancelling or turning over their accounts and automatic payments. Sucks.. but it's not ACORN specific. It does show that the former ACORN is just as shady as the best of them, and we knew that already.

out of who? ACORN doesnt technically exist anymore, yet the money is still being taken out of her account by 'someone', and going to 'someplace'.

Much as I agree with apdst I was just about to say that.

Ah and the "this is what all liberals do" card is played.

Well done.

This is every bit as much a failure of her credit union as it is an ACORN snafu. Banks are horrible about stopping automatic withdrawals. They'll tell you that you have to do it at "the other end." Baloney! It's my account. Stop taking that money out of it. The lady should have reported it to her state's bank regulatory agency at month three. Then watch her bank solve the problem.

This should help her figure out how to sue ACORN:

Good advice.

This is why I NEVER sign up for automatic withdrawals... I prefer to control my own finances, even if it takes a little more investment of time than the lazy auto withdrawal way...

You know who is the worst perpetrator though.

Gyms.

They're like the ****ing Mafia I swear.

Try:

A: Cancelling your gym membership.
B: Trying to get them off your auto withdrawels.

Rediculous.

And get what? Aren't they bankrupt (financially as well as morally)?

It's my understanding they are still in operation just dumped the Acorn name. Americorp maybe? I don't know, I just seem to recall that.
There was no reason for them to close up shop just because they were defunded.

Much easier and safer, if one is compelled to make something automatic, to put it on one's credit card. Relief, then, is one disputing phone call away.
