Japanese Nuclear Situation Worsens; Military May Air Drop Water on Reactors

Japanese nuclear officials are now saying that they may seek out the assistance of the U.S. and Japanese militaries to help spray water from helicopters into an overheating spent fuel storage pool. Tokyo Electric Power is entertaining the helicopter idea because the risk of radiation contamination from approaching the pool directly.

WHY HAVE THERE BEEN NO AIR DROPS OF FOOD, WATER, BLANKETS, MEDICINE????

There is talk of air drops of 500,000 body bags but NO TALK OF LIFE SAVING SUPPLIES.

I just listened to a reporter on Fox News who is in Japan. The town where he is located has 100,000 residents. He said there is no food. There is no water. There is no gasoline. He said he doesn't understand in a nation like Japan why this is the case. "This isn't a third world country," he said.

Why are people still on gym floors lying on newspapers? It is cold and there is no heat. Why are blankets and coats and gloves and socks not being dropped?? Many thousands of people were flooded out of their homes in winter. They have spent days with no warmth and very little food and water.

What is the deal here? It is NOT A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY. They have friends. Many millions of people are donating money. Why no air drops?

    Apparently it isn't enough.

Upon interacting with the stranded survivors and hearing the firsthand account of HSL-43 crew members, the Preble crew volunteered to provide supplies to the Japanese people from their own deployment provisions. Their contributions included warm weather clothing, wool blankets, non-perishable food and water.

The Supply Department on board also provided as many dry goods and bottles of water as possible. In less than two hours, the messdecks were full of donated supplies for the helicopter to bring to land to aid in the rescue and assistance effort.

    Whatever needs to be done.

The one thing we know we can control is that these folks have enough to eat and drink, and unlike a rogue African country, there's not a bunch of trucks full of armed henchmen to run around and steal it from the people.

And I still stand in admiration of the lack of looting and criminal activity going on. The people of New Orleans should be ashamed. They look stray dogs compared to these honorable Japanese citizens.

The belittling comments all over the internet about this situation just amaze me. I don't understand how people can be so small. I never thought I'd see that. Either joking about Japan, dismissing the crisis, digging up sins of the grandfathers, I hate to think so many Americans are so petty.

When you train people from birth that the acquisition of wealth and accumulation of "things" should be the driving force in their lives. What do you expect them to do when law and order breaks down?

Now that's not a general rule, nor is it a justification.

But Japanese people have a strong respect for authority in general, and isn't it rather interesting their populations response to government help was not to bitch or complain about it. But just to take it as it came, and it was rather effective bar remote regions where access was difficult.

Notice how swift and effective a response can be from a relatively strong central government....

Again not a justification for anything.

    Simply an observation.

I am sure the Japanese people appreciate your concern but getting the nuclear disaster under control is pretty important. Let's do both.
