If there was ever a country that can handle a nature disaster it would be Japan in my opinion, they've had them constantly in the past so they are prepared and on top of that the Japaneses know how to come together in away that would make Voltron envious, their national unity and sense of greater purpose isn't something to be taken lightly.

How did the OP get the idea that supply drops were somehow ignored?

There's two carrier battle groups on station and more relief work is being flown in 24/7.

If you watch the JAPANESE news reporting, they are staying calm and collected. It's the western news that is sensationalizing it.

The crisis isn't over, but it isn't doomsday right now, so people here need to get a grip and stop being so dramatic.

The footage that I saw--on CNN--of the airdrops looked like a waste time. So, I guess things do change.

Of course Japanese reporting is going to play things down. The Japanese can't lose face.
