I thought they'd already ruled out any air dropping of water?

Now that's not a general rule, nor is it a justification.

But Japanese people have a strong respect for authority in general, and isn't it rather interesting their populations response to government help was not to bitch or complain about it. But just to take it as it came, and it was rather effective bar remote regions where access was difficult.

Notice how swift and effective a response can be from a relatively strong central government....
Again not a justification for anything.

    Simply an observation.
Uh, what has this strong central government done for the victims up north?

Nothing. They're cold and hungry and homeless. The government has its hands full with the reactors.

And no one jumps in for victims of a crisis like the U.S. No one.

They're people are just better behaved than the miscreants in New Orleans. That's all.

    "their people are better".

    Nope. Not nessecarily.

I would just argue they're brought up differently. They value different things.

In America, there's a high emphasis placed on aquiring wealth and "things".

When these items can be acquired due to the breakdown of law and order, they will be sought.

How else do you explain people looting Nike stores over grocery stores?

I would argue that American thinking thinks in terms of the "me". Japanese thinking, thinks of the "us" what do "we" need. Not what do "I" deserve.

No, you have it all wrong.

Japan does not have a collection of citizenry who expects everything to be handed to them by their government, and who feel "entitled" to something for nothing on a daily basis.

Because that's not how they view it.

For myself for example, Canada and Japan have universal health care.

I dont view it as the government giving me anything because I pay taxes.

I view it as me and my fellow citizens combining our recourses, using the government (that thing that's accountable to us, the people) as a medium to provide those recourses.

On CNN they said that the radiation is much too high to send aircraft over the reactor. Frankly, they seem to have reached the opinion that there is simply nothing anyone can do to stop this thing from happening.

Meanwhile, Obama suggests to the Japanese people that they can get their minds off this by.....filling out their NCAA brackets.

I kid you not. He actually said this.
