Baby Joseph Flown to U.S. Hospital

Great. They keep pumping air into a dead baby to what ends? This sounds like cruel and unusual punishment to me. The Canadian doctors are right. It's time to let him go.

Its the Parents decision that they want the action done.

A Doctor is not a slave. They do not have to perform whatever medical procedure you wish. They can't do stuff to the baby the parents don't want, but they absolutely can refuse to do something they feel is ethically unsound.

If a pregnant woman walked into a doctors office of a devout catholic, has him check the health of the her baby, and then once she's being seen by him demands that he give her an abortion is it not the Doctor's choice to say no?

Look, they found a doctor that would do it and more power to them. And I do agree, I like the fact that we have the choice in this country where a hospital can choose to do this if they wish and the parents can choose to do it if they can afford it or if the hospital will do it for free. That said, I have absolutely no qualms with a hospital saying no or even an insurance company saying no as its an unncessary surgery that is of no overall benefit physically or mentally to the child and is nothing but an action to make the parents feel better. A Doctor is not a slave and an insurance companies purpose is not to assure that a parents feelings aren't hurt.

Of course a doctor is not a slave. I was not saying a particular doctor MUST do whatever parents want. PLease don't generalize my comments when I am trying to talk ONLY about the topic at hand.

I was saying that the ultimate decision about treatment for their child is THEIR decision, and no one elses. That being said, they have the right to find a physician, hospital, etc., that will follow their wishes in the care of their child. They also have the respopnsibility to pay for it out of pocket if the insurance company will not.

I think this is splitting hairs. Most Americans will not be able to have a procedure without their insurance company's permission, because they can't afford it...just like most Canadians will not be able to have a procedure without their government's permission, because it's nominally illegal in a single-payer system.

Either way the outcome is approximately the same for the vast majority of people. Let's not pretend that Americans have vastly more freedom in this regard than Canadians do.

This is good news. The scum in Canada wanted to kill him.

Yes... now American scum will keep him alive a few extra days only to have him die anyways. YES! YOU WON!

If the kid is a vegetable, how could he be suffering? :doh

.

How dumb are you?

His physical body can suffer. They can cut him open for no reason and then he will die in three days anyway.

I swear... the metal processes of some people.

In this country, that's correct. In Canada, that's incorrect. What's your point?

In this country, it's the insurance company that decides, unless the parents have unlimited resources.

Baby Joseph Flown to U.S. Hospital - Health Care - Fox Nation
The baby who was hours from being pulled off life support at his Canadian hospital has been rescued by the national director of Priests for Life and taken to the U.S. for treatment.

Thirteen-month-old Joseph Maraachli, who is currently kept alive by a respirator and was recently denied a transfer to a Michigan hospital to undergo a tracheotomy, arrived in the U.S. early Monday morning with Fr. Frank Pavone and other Priests for Life staff.

"Priests for Life staff toiled through the night for many nights, working in concert with dozens of people to make this possible," Father Pavone said in a statement. "Now that we have won the battle against the medical bureaucracy in Canada, the real work of saving Baby Joseph can begin."

"Canadian scum" really? Did you read any other sources then Fox News? How about a Canadian source? Fox News as normal got it wrong. This baby is going to die regardless. The family is only asking for a tracheotomy to be performed so they can take their child home to die. This family lost another child to the same disease 8 yrs ago. They know what is ahead for their son. My government and healthcare system didn't rule to kill the child. Numerous hospitals around the world including many in the US also came to the same conclusion.

Now an "activist priest" is involved. Hope his own agenda doesn't get in the way of closure for this family.
