Authorities have maintained a volcano warning at a level of three out of five, restricting access to the entire mountain. (File photo) (Reuters: Minami-Nippon Shimbun)

A volcano in south-western Japan has erupted after nearly two weeks of relative silence, sending ash and rocks up to four kilometres into the air, a local official said.
It was not immediately clear if the eruption was a direct result of the massive 8.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked northern areas on Friday, unleashing a fierce tsunami and sparking fears that more than 10,000 may have been killed.

That was just an attempt at humor. I think I was conveying a thought that everyone is having. It was in no way trolling.
Ok, I'll take your word for it. I have to correct your assertion, though, that everyone was thinking the same thing. The thought never crossed my mind.

I was commenting more on the bombardment of disasters Japan seems to be getting.

Actually, I read this the exact way he intended it.

Let me add that the eruption is not any kind of disaster at all. The volcano is a very active one. It's last eruption was only 2 weeks ago, and most people have the common sense not to make it a disaster by jumping into it.

Definitely crossed my mind...though admittedly a bit different since I believe in God. It was more along the lines of "Damn...God must be pissed at em!".

Ok, ok, I probably took it too seriously. I thought we were headed into a discussion of how a loving God could "do" all this. I'm just not one who believes natural disasters happen in order to punish people, unless of course, it's a plague of frogs and/or anything that might turn you into a pillar of salt.

Believe me, I'm not one to believe that stuff either. I might believe in God, but that doesn't mean he purposely goes out and kills people every single time he blinks. Besides...Satan is a more likely candidate for that type of stuff.

You know Giant Noodle, you are getting a little too excited about these news events. You need to take a chill pill.

Fortunately, this is not in the disaster area and was already an ongoing issue BEFORE the earthquake/tsunami disaster. I don't know how much damage this will cause, but it will be very limited in scope.

Indonesia had an even roughter time following its earthquake/tsunami disaster in 2004. In this part of the world, we know we have to deal with this.

I know a lot of people tend to wrap religion up with natural disasters - which I find odd. Earthquakes, Hurricanes, volcanic erruptions - and so on have been happening since before man took his firt **** in his primitive comode.

The only people that have fault with any of this are the ones who decided to put 55 nuclear facilities on an Island that is prone to earthquakes and vocanic erruptions.

Everything else is just the natural cycle and we just happen to be effected.

It's not like it wouldn't possibly have happened if we weren't on this earth or something

If there is a god, he is really pissed off at Japan.

Had Jesus never come which in effect reformed the Church and made it more forgiving than we read about in the Old Testament you have a point.

However nature plays a roll in Human life and the Lord works in mysterious I can't begin to explain.

This IS about religion. God is really, really pissed that people overturned some of the likenesses of him on Easter Island.

They call the Pacific Rim the Ring of Fire for nothing.

This eruption might have some connection to the Earthquake but that's not important. What is important is to just keep an eye of this Volcano and be aware of what potential it has for damage and not over react before something happens to warrant it.

It is irresponsible to to put all these events in the same basket or like some claim it's some sort of heavenly pay back for indiscretion or something.

Everyone needs to remain calm and deal with events as they occur.

I would however recommend having an emergency preparedness kit handy, including enough water for no less than three days. Remember the rule of threes. Rule says you can live without air for 3 minutes. without water for 3 days, and without food for 3 weeks.

Also keep in mind that it is always better to have more then you need, than to need more then you have.
