I tend to tolerate Maher's obvious religious disdain because it isn't targeting a particular religion. Perhaps that is very wrong of me, but I would also be more likely to tolerate someone who hated all races.

For some reason equal opportunity hatred just doesn't bother me as much. It just serves to marginalize those who support it.

Your particular brand of bigotry interests me much more SgtRock.

You made the argument that Islam cannot be compared to Christianity as far as hate speech is concerned because Christianity is separated into two books. By that logic then, isn't Judaism just as evil?

Also, what relevance is there that Islam recognizes both Moses and Jesus Christ to be religious prophets, as it is based upon both Christianity and Judaism?

This time I highlighted all the evil parts. It took much longer than it usually does to read. Lots of evil parts.
If you actually read it all, then you not post half the asinine crap you have over the years. The Qur'an has less than 2% of it that deal with any physical violence. It talks less about torment in the afterlife than the Bible does. Even then, I doubt you know one thing about the historical moment each surah/ayat was revealed.

You think the indiscriminate annihilation of thousands/millions of people is perfectly acceptable. There is no point discussing anything further with someone who holds a mindset like that.

The OP believes nearly everything is a CIA tactic or part of the neoconservative world conspiracy. In this case, it is just Bill Maher acting true to form: the asshole no one wants to associate with.

    Prove it.

It talks less about torment in the afterlife than the Bible does.
Oh, well that must make it better....Oh wait, it isn't those who believe in the Bible out to take over the world right now is it?

Even then, I doubt you know one thing about the historical moment each surah/ayat was revealed.

Do I have to empirically know that the bowl with brown scoops in it that are warm and smelly is not ice cream, when you tell me it is? Or can I make that judgement before I put it to my lips?

What, wait, I think you have that backwards today it is radical Muslims in search of their caliphate that believe this....

Was Bill Maher behaving boorishly? Yes. Was what Bill Maher said to Ellison morally equivalent to, say, when Glenn Beck asked Ellison to "prove he wasn't with the enemy?" No.

Don't understand the difference? Maher opposes all religion equally, thus distributes his rudeness equally. He is as apt to insult a Muslim's faith as he is a Christian's or a Buddhist's. Even though I disagree with his tactics, Maher is taking a principled stand against superstition. He does not selectively hate one religion. Beck, King and their ilk, on the other hand, singles out one particular religion, Islam, as the target of their hatred. If they can be said to be taking a principled stand against anything, it is against a particular group of people. That's called racism.

It's not called racism if the group you're talking about isn't a race. If you can't even use the right terminology, how are you supposed to discuss this at all?

Deuce, you're such a card. Anyway, you're right, it's more properly called "xenophobia" not "racism." I ought to make the effort to use the terminology correctly instead of using the wrong term like a complete moron.

Re: Bill Maher tells Rep. Ellison the Quran is a ‘hate-filled holy book’ that inspire

Lets compare what Bill Maher said to Ellison to what Juan Williams said about getting nervous about seeing muslims in airports. Bill Maher is a liberal cable talk show host. Juan Williams is a liberal who worked for NPR and as a part time commentator on Fox News. Both men made comments about Islam or muslims though Maher's were much more derogatory. Williams was fired from NPR and even before that his comment was all over the mainstream media. His story lasted for weeks. Maher on the other hand barely gets mentioned and is totally ignored by the mainstream media. Is it because Williams works for Fox? IS it a double standard. If a conservative who happens to be an athiest said what Maher said would he be treated differently? I say yes. What say you?
