Yellowstone, like Hawaii, IS BELIEVED TO LIE ONTO OF AN AREA CALLED A HOTSPOT.....with the term SUPER VOLCANO an invention of the BBC used for effect. I have about as much concern for this event as I do for the BERMUDA TRIANGLE.
Actually, it is my understanding that "supervolcano" is a geologic term. It refers to I think 5 or 6 calderas worldwide.

And the Yellowstone dome is swelling, no one is sure how much to worry.

And no, liberals have no "volcano agenda", volcanos don't care about anyone's politics.

No doubt Yellowstone is very close to blowing by geographic time measures.

I'm sure it's gonna suck for people when it goes off in 500,000 years.

Well it's sure a relief that a professional geographer posts here. I guess it will suck for the people 500,000 years from now when their maps are all screwed up.

Damn librul volcanos. They're causing global warming, ya know. Ask any cartographer, they'll tell you.

I was watching NHK this morning and they have been interviewing survivors of the disaster. Amazing stories of survival and heartache... I wish you guys could understand Japanese... for those of you who think the Japanese are emotionless automatons, the interviews I have seen this morning would serve to dispel such sterotypes...

No need for people to derail the thread. You are doing an excellent job all by yourself.

NOTE: The amount of the shift of the earth's axis is 23 centimeters. Not really a lot, but goes to show how powerful this quake really was.

actually, i believe what we see of the japanese people is quite telling - in a positive way
compare the looting and ill treatment among the victims of katrina with this
looting simply does not occur in that culture
