    Yes.
Some reactor designs don't require continued cooling. They can be shut down essentially instantly and sit benignly in the container. Oh, but they cost more!
Fukushima nuke plant looks to me like it was designed with a single point of failure. They assumed that they would only have short power failures. No power to the plant during a shutdown results in no cooling after the batteries run down. Then they put the support buildings right on shore!

I took another look at the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjx-JlwYtyE look starting from second 0:23, when the frame goes to mock telephoto. It is very clear at about second 0:24.
I don’t think a hydrogen explosion is fast enough to do that, it would have to be close to stoichiometric. It might be if oxygen is also generated.

I think his mention of "high explosives" put him in the tin foil category.

Exept for the fact we are not allowed to build those any more.

It was definitely a high explosive in this case a from a huge build up of hydrogen gas being released from the reactor.

Some expert on TV said something about a hydrogen-oxygen mixture. I am not sure how the oxygen was being generated.

Yes, I think there is a possibility that the containment vessel has exploded, it is stout enough to hold high enough pressure to create a shock wave when it explodes. Then all the fuel is sitting exposed and some scattered in the area. The conspiracy is that they haven’t been up front about it.
So what do you think the shock wave is from?
What did you think I thought it was from?

didn't the president just hold a press conference where he answered many questions about his position on the cost of petroleum? what is it that you believe the president should have commented on that he did not
or are you just looking for any excuse, however lame, to bash the president
we are negotiating about dividing a pizza and in the meantime israel is eating it
