As Government Shutdown Looms, Senate Shoots Down Dueling Spending Proposals

With only a little over a week to go before the government could shut down, the Senate today shot down dueling spending proposals from each party.
Now here is the kicker. On the Republican bill, three of the Senators who were supported by the Tea Party voted against their own bill. Eleven Democrats broke with their own party to vote against their own bill.

It is one thing to talk about what you favor, but the acid test is taking a position when it is time to vote, something which goes on the public record. and it looks like 3 Republicans and 11 Democrats are cowards by this measure. I might expect this from Democrats, but I am surprised that the Republicans who voted against their own measure were Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Jim Demint.

So here is where it stands. The government is set to shut down in a week. When it does, Republicans will be pointing fingers at Democrats, and Democrats will be pointing fingers at Republicans. I, however, will be pointing my finger at each and every one of those sonofabitches who are now in office. But, what the hell, let the accusations and counter accusations begin. At least the budget will be balanced for the time the government is shut down. And who knows? Maybe the American people will decide that America is a better nation without any government - at least without the kind of government we have right now. LOL.

    Haven't seen the bills, but:

    1. This is not 1994. People realize we're in red beyond our eyeballs. And if Paul, and Demint didn't vote for it... my guess is they think it doesn't go far enough; unless there's some procedural reason.

    2. Would be nice if our kleptomaniac, Ponzi Scheme government was shut for a good long time. People might realize we can live without them. These folks really should convene for a week every quarter, unless it's a national emergency. Of course, everything would become a national emergency. To think of it, I think the Dems sold everything, even school lunches as a national emergency/crisis.

    3. It would help return power where it should be; to states and their localities.

I have the perfect solution to solve the national debt problem. Have every millionaire and billionaire in the U.S. donate a minimum of 10-15% of their total income to the government, which will go towards paying off the debt. Given how many mega rich people are in the country, the national debt can be reduced down to $0 in no time.

    Just about 4 hours left.

Plenty of blame to go around.

Republicans will lose ground with woman voters over going after PP and turning this partially into a social debate. Bad move.

At the same time will gain ground looking like the fiscal white knights... Comparitively anyway.

    It's pathetic.

It's embarrassing, and if i were you I'd demand better of my leaders.

You, sir, are not very good at math.

This idea is about as hilarious as that plan to give every worker over the age of 50 a million dollars to retire, with the stipulation that they must buy a house and a car. Housing crisis solved! Auto industry saved! Unemployment fixed as all those workers get replaced! Wooo!

(40 million workers over 50 times 1 million dollars...)
