SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Illinois abolished the death penalty Wednesday, more than a decade after the state imposed a moratorium on executions out of concern that innocent people could be put to death by a justice system that had wrongly condemned 13 men.

And that is key for me. If even one personal is wrongfully put to death, then the entire system that murdered him is flawed. The Governor of Illinois put this quite succinctly:

"We have found over and over again: Mistakes have been made. Innocent people have been freed. It's not possible to create a perfect, mistake-free death penalty system," Quinn said after signing the legislation.

I completely agree with you, Governor. Thank you for doing the right thing. Reason has won out over the desire for vengeance. Saith the Lord "Vengeance is mine", which means of course, that it is his, and not ours. When a system murders those innocent of a crime, it becomes just as much a murderer as those it places on death row, and just as deserving of God's vengeance as well.

Great victory for humanity and everything it stands for.

This will end up being a point of contention between many of my friends and myself, but I am happy to live in a state that has banned the death penalty.

At least my home state is doing something right.

I agree, this is a good move. The death penalty inherently consumes innocent life. If we're really concerned with the high value of human life, then we must recognize that fact and put an end to the death penalty. There's no absolutes, and Illinois had found something like just over half the inmates on their death row were innocent of the crimes they committed. It's a good thing to rid ourselves of the death penalty. It's just no longer necessary in our current, modern system.

Plus, this will save more money for killing babies.

How liberals manage to balance being pro-abortion with being anti-death penalty will never cease to amaze me.

Because a baby is a parasitic invader, guilty of being inconvenient.

I would have thought you smart enough to get that.

Is the state administering abortions?

How partisan hacks confuse being pro-death penalty and anti-abortion with conservative politics will never cease to amaze me.

Could be they honestly believe that the time for killing people is AFTER they are born.

As for being a deterrent the death penalty is a bust because it is not carried out and the methods of carring it out have made it too easy when it is used.

It is better to make it painful for the offenders if they are stuck in prison for life without parole with no privileges for life. They need to know that there is a real price to pay without TV radio the internet or anything but bunk mate Bubba to keep them company.

To be effextib=ve we need to go back to, "You will be taken to a place of execution at sunrise where where you will be hanged by the neck until dead.

Then there mght be a reduction in murders.

There would also undoubtedly be a rise in the numbers of innocent people put to death, because their Constitutional right of due process was stripped from them.
