Hhmm…I wonder why this is? :roll:

<People living in England enjoy better health than Americans, despite less investment in healthcare, research published in the US has revealed.>

<Despite the greater use of health care technology in the US, Americans receive less preventive health care than their English counterparts.>

<They have fewer physician consultations per year. >

< Public health experts suggested more generous holiday entitlements and more favourable working conditions in the UK might also play a part.>

Different cultures, different lifestyles. IE I don't really care what they do in England.

I think it is the bangers and mash combined with the spotted dick that makes the english healthier

It would be nice to have a few more useful years above ground though. :(

Havent you heard the new US motto

eat hard die young and leave a bloated corpse

Must be the fish and chips.:mrgreen:

If you compare the calories and fats in a McDonalds / KFC / Burger King type meal and that of a similar sized fish and chips type meal you may find fish and chips is healthier. Not saying it's a health food - just less bad for you.

It's the fried Mars Bar you can buy in many Scottish fish and chips shops that are bad for you but the thread is about England's health and not Scotland's...

It's not how long the ride is that is important...its what you do on that ride that is.

True, and it also helps if all your parts work like they were supposed to while riding.

Ah from your own article a spokes person for the NHS said....

"Whilst in some areas our outcomes may be favourable compared with those in the US, we are still clear that we have a long way to go before we achieve outcomes comparable with the best performing health systems.

Funny how the article seems to shy away from telling us what they are comparing to, and what they are advanced in....Why do you suppose that is so vague?

Because it is probably more than one nation:

In the first international comparison of healthcare quality, researchers found that of the five countries studied, none is consistently the best or the worst. For instance, Australia had the best breast-cancer screening, but the worst survival rates for childhood leukemia. This was best in Canada, but that country had the worst heart-attack survival rates. And while the United States led the way in five-year survival rates from breast cancer, it was the worst for kidney transplants.

The conclusion: Each country has something to learn from the others.

Let me clarify. The NHS person is saying "We could do a lot better. Comparing us to America doesn't mean anything because we are still worse than other places."

It's a one-page news blurb, if you want more detailed information you'll have to actually do some work.

England's healthcare is 100 times worse than the US though.

I'd rather live a full and enjoyed life and die middle aged. Than I would live a horrible life and die old.

A person could of course claim that since English food is so bad, you simply eat less of it... but I must admit the few times I've had "English food" I've sort of liked it. :3oops::2razz:

USA = capitalist democracy
UK = socialist

Speaks for itself.

Your fire department is socialized. Go down to the station and tell the guys there they do a terrible job.

It's amazing the mental gymnastics conservatives will do so that they can avoid the truth that socialized medicine has already proven that it can out perform privatized medicine.

I wonder what they'd say if someone told them there are nations with "socialized medicine" (using the conservative definition) that have shorter waiting times than the United States...

Proof or it didn't happen.
