Still waiting ...
It's fairly obvious that MSM is a joke, on both sides. I find all the bickering about media bias fairly ridiculous as none seem to really deliver a solid, consistent news stream. News today comes in bites and it's obvious that this is how the majority of our country gets the news. Why read an article in the Times when you can just have a widget that will give the cliff notes in 5 words? I agree it's quite humorous that China is the country making this accusation, but will agree with others and say it makes it no less true.
Do they allow news?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110301/ap_on_re_as/as_china_protest_calls The Foreign Correspondents' Club of China said journalists from 15 news organizations trying to report near the shopping street "experienced serious interference." Journalists from five news organizations reported having their equipment confiscated or reporting material destroyed, the FCCC said in a statement Monday.
Bloomberg News said one of its journalists was assaulted by five men who appeared to be plainclothes security officers and had a video camera confiscated. A BBC journalist wrote that he and a colleague were roughed up while being thrown into a van by men in plain clothes.
Most Americans read Drudge first, or Huffington. Two seriously flawed tabloid sites. Why? Because the lamestream media don't do their jobs and mimick either Fox or TMZ.
The lead story on 2 of the 3 local news outlets yesterday at 5 o'clock was Charlie Sheen. So we have us a serious problem with news censorship today in the US.
This is the incident that caused China to release the comments they made about Western press, quoted in my first thread starting post. China claims the harrassment was a fabrication and the West, always ready to antagonize its top compitetor/ rival
always harps on "the commies" for Americas own worst offenses. Hence, another scapegoat for the Right Wing. eace
What was Iraq and the war on terror, but a huge human rights abuses and death squads? What is the US policy on detention and torture? Why does the US media routine censor these stories in favor of Lindsay Lohan?
:failpail:
Chinese first: Tiananmen Square mentioned in official newspaper - CSMonitor.com
I did a search on Tiennamen square because I figured that would be an easy one
Thanks.
My take of the article: Coming from the Christian Science Monitor, a paper that NEVER criticizes Israel, it may be accurate but i disagree with their bias against China.Google and Yahoo, American companies, were both caught turning in Chinese dissidents who did nothing except write about their political beliefs. So, America is guilty of many of the same crimes it accuses China of. Namely unlawful detention and torture. It is worth noting in a thread about press freedom, that the Christian Science Monitor went bankrupt years ago and was purchased by people connected to US govmnnt agencies. It is a US govmnt outlet like Voice of America or Radio Free Europe.
Kane, the Christian Science Monitor is one of the best papers out there. I find it interesting that you find bias in that highly-respected paper, all the while giving the Chinese press a pass. Really?
Shouldn't this be down in the humor section? Chinese media accusing others of fabricating news? LOL. That'd be like Cold War Era "Pravda" chastising the US Media.
I'd be willing to bet that there are western propaganda incursions into China that make up plenty of news and facts. Why is that surprising?
How, do they have news with a spectrum of political alignments that can be swayed?
Then you're talking about pirate radio. I doubt they have anything like the news in the US which can be swayed by interests. Or so I believe.
Damn skippy. Liberals have been saying this since the 2000 election. Back in the nineties, CNN used to be so great. When they investigated "Iraq-Gate" under Bush Sr.,
(how the U.S. sold Saddam weapons) they had new updates every hour, not simply repeating the same clips all day. Now all they do is spin away. Don't look at the truth hidden behind my back, look at this more palatable version of history/reality sanitized and censored for your viewing pleasure. Or, in Fox News case, video from another event all together, file footage from wherever we choose to pull it from.
"BEIJING (AFP) - An official Chinese newspaper has accused foreign journalists in the country of fabricating news in the latest sign of official nerves over an online campaign for anti-government rallies."
Western journalists 'fabricate' news: China media - The West Australian
Thanks.

The point was, the US news is heavily censored also.
If you can't. you are not really in much of a position to comment on the pervasiveness and nature of the fabrication in the Chinese news media.
I wouldn't exactly cal you an objective source. That news is completely fabricated for propaganda purposes sounds like a stretch to me unless its been evidenced in the thread and I missed it.
The guy is wrong, where are all the videos of dead Iraqis the US killed with napalm and cluster bombs? The children who died from disease? Wheres the CNN footage, eh?

I am not an objective source? And you rely more on the party-state control of a dictatorship as being more objective?
Their point has no merit. In China, the news is hevily censored by the government and the party, and there are no alternative news sources. In that, the GOVERNMENT/PARTY makes the determination what is altered and censored. In the United States, the news organizations make those decisions and there are FAR MORE OPTIONS available.
