It is way past time to rethink the mail system and reduce the delivery days down to 3 a week half on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. the other half on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

They also need to reduce office hours.

Snail Mail is no longer critical as it was before the Computer age, and as time goes by it will become even less relevant

    OPPPPPSS!!! NO! You didnt.

The*Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service*sets policy, procedure, and postal rates for services rendered, and has a similar role to a corporate*board of directors. Of the eleven members of the Board, nine are appointed by the President and confirmed by the*United States Senate*

While the Postal Service is expected to finance itself, it is not allowed to set its own rates, choose its own hours, or determine its internal policies.

While I'm not sure what is considered owning a business consists of, in my opinion, this comes awful close.

Now seeing they are “not” a government run business, I'm sure that none of their 2010 short fall of 7.5 billion dollars will not be covered in any way shape or form by the government right ?

Where? Who? More importantly, what do these "people" have to do with me?

That's probably true. Though there could be a higher premium paid you want something delivered on an off day.

Exactly, the USPS is an example of something I think the government never needed or should have been doing in the first place.

Well, it started quite a while ago by the Founding Fathers. It was quite necessary for many years, though I think it may not be the worst thing ever if they cut back on delivering mail or privitize it completely (I get too much junk mail as it is). That crazy Interweb has changed a lot of things.

Simple solution: Make postage for junk mail and bills much higher than they are currently. These companies are using government services for advertising and profits, they should have to pay a ****load more than they are doing currently.

Maybe this would explain why they frequently fail to pick up my mail. They are trying to save money.

The town I live in has the worst postal service I have ever seen. They constantly fail to pick up peoples mail. I have had several friends complain of this. When a complaint is made the post master response is "We are not required by law to pick up mail, only deliver mail".

There has been more then one occasion where I have had to chase the mail carrier down my street to get him/her to take my mail. I wouldn't miss seeing the lazy assholes lose their jobs.

True, the web has made it even more inadequate. I don't doubt it served a useful purpose during our nations earlier years, but I feel that delivering mail could have been more efficiently done by the private sector. There are just some things the government is not as good at as the market, and vice-versa.
