SAS 'Blades' rescue 150: Crack team of commandos snatch terrified Britons from desert nightmare in war-torn Libya

"SAS has staged a dramatic evacuation of 150 civilian workers from the Libyan desert.
The Special Forces soldiers landed in two C130 Hercules military transport aircraft on a landing strip near remote oilfields south of the eastern port of Benghazi.
The SAS men – known as ‘blades’ because of their role at the sharp end of the mission – had flown from Malta’s Valletta airport, where, in meticulous detail, they planned the rescue of the stranded workers, many of them British. ... "

There was a second raid last night. Britain's Special Forces get it done while others reposition, but I can't help wondering why they are being sent to rescue folk who went there for a tax free high-paid job.

To quote George Peppard when he was part of the A-team: "I love it when a plan comes together."

I SALUTE the Blades, the PM who must have signed off on the mission and the Staff who planned it as will as the pilots etc. It had to be a pretty will planned operation.

Because they're your folk. In the end, nothing else matters.

Brits that work overseas don't pay taxes? Sweet!!

The second raid last night drew fire, and a round apparently glanced off the pilot's flying helmet. Some rebels later apologised, they thought the Herc was Gaddafi coming after them!

Good thing they didn't get into a real firefight, the mission may have suffered catastrophic failure.

Outstanding job, very well done! They made their country proud. Helluva good mission.

Why? Because the SAS isn't the most elite special forces on Earth? They can't handle a firefight?

The most elite? :lamo

The most elite? :lamo

That's right. That's pretty internationally accepted. Can you think of anyone else?

The Spetsnaz are hard core, and they're probably the toughest, but as professional as the SAS? I think not.

The SBS are tough lads, and they've got a reputation for bravery, but they're certainly not the most elite.

Delta? Don't even try. Check out a book called Task Force Black, it's all about Delta and the SAS in Iraq -- Delta's not even in the same league.

The French Foreign Legion's an army unto itself, and so it isn't special forces, but the 22nd Parachute Regiment stands a fair shot -- they're still not the SAS though.

Who else?

Re: SAS 'Blades' rescue 150: Crack team of commandos snatch terrified Britons from de

JTF2 was trained by the SAS.

I'm sure they helped yeah for sure.

It's hard to say, I would argue that the SAS is the most elite special forces group in the world, hands down.

But there are many special forces groups out there that would excel in other fields.

BOPE for example (Rio De Jinerio Special Police Force) is an unbelievable fighting force, same with the South African Police Special Task Force, the sheer frequency of engagements they participate in makes them truly masters of not only combat, but especially in the South African Special Task Force at Hostage Negotiations and various other tasks.

Hehe, didn't think the Afrikaners knew how to negotiate.

XD

Just so you know. Delta Force's primary role is to fight werewolves. The SAS are too cowardly to do that. And Spetsnaz is too corrupt. So yeah its up to Delta to save the world from werewovles.

They don't, they get the non-Afrikaner members to do the negotiations.

So you read a book and now your an expert on who is the most elite force out there. Give me a break. Tell me what actual knowledge you have on this or are you just guessing. The only difference between the SAS and CAG (Delta) is who is having a better day.

Ehh most elite, they likely don't know amongst themselves. Different groups for different things most likely. What theyre trained for and what theyre sent to do.

Exactly. I'm not comparing the SAS to the Rangers or the Royal Marines or GSG9. They're all different types of units. But when dealing with special forces, which is a quite specific field of combat, the SAS is surely at the top.

First of all special operations are in no way or shape a specific field of combat. And the roles of those units are constatly changing to meet the ever changing world. And there is almost no difference between CAG or the SAS. You do realise that those two units train together alot and do a lot of joint work. Why do you think that the SAS would be so much better than CAG when they both train from basicaly the same playbook and can be as selective as they want on who they allow into thier unit. And seeing how CAG has a larger pool of people to recruit from and I would be willing to bet a larger budget it is kind of hard to beilive what you are saying. So unless you have any first hand knowleage to say toher wise I dont think I will but to much faith in an opinion of some one who read a book. And I am sure that opinion wouldnt be affected by your anti americanism would it.

Firstly, I'm not anti-American. Americans think anyone who isn't pro-American, must be anti-American. That's a fallacy.

Secondly, there are statistics to prove it. CAG, or Delta, and the SAS do train together a lot, and they're both highly professional, as all special forces are. But you can look at the SAS's induction rates and drop out rates, compared to Delta, to prove my point.
