Last WW1 Veteran dies at the age of 110.

May he rest in peace. An era has ended.

May he rest in peace. An era has ended.

Yes it has. I was hoping he would make to the 100th anniversary of the beginning of WW1.

What a life he led. What a hero.
May he rest in peace.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

(Yes, that can apply to non-ANZACS too)

Reading about Frank Buckles, he seemed a gentle and patient man who was unused to the growing fascination the US public developed in him.

This apparently now leaves only two surviving UK vets from all the different nations involved in the "War to end all Wars."

I can only hope Claude Choules and Florence Green have as much honour and celebration in their last years.

When this guy was born, Babe Ruth was 5 years old. Adolph Hitler was 11. Benjamin Harrison was still alive. The Titanic wasn't built yet. There were only 75 million Americans.

Also, at Buckles birth time, John Sherman, of the Sherman Antitrust Act, died. Sherman was born in 1823, when James Monroe was president. Monroe fought in the revolution and crossed the Delaware with Washington.
