Great sources! If I wanted rhetoric I could turn on Glenn Beck. I mean seriously, is any of that fact? Is it all adjusted for inflation? Does it take into account the financial crisis that had conservative and liberal support for bailouts?

I could post plenty of links but if you havent figured it out by now your not going to so I wont waste my time.

You are in Denial, The facts are right there in front of you choose to open your eyes and wake the hell up but by all means, choose to walk off the cliff with the Pied Piper Obama if you want.

Why do you think many countries are now wanting to dump the dollar as reserve currency?

For crist sake we even have the Communist Chinese are scolding us for all this debt.

Here..... the presidents own man admits his budget is unsustainable....

Obama is the biggest spender of any country in the history of the world and the country is going bankrupt because of it.
On the other side we have the Republicans who were elected to cut spending & can only come up with a pathetic 60 billion dollars when we are trillions in debt.

Honestly in the last 2 years where has all this spending got us? High unemployment.......Inflation, strife between the parties and the country is slowly falling economically backward backward.

If you dont run your own fiscal situation like this than how can we allow our government too?

I hope you who support all this can live with yourselfs when someday your children & grandchildren are paying for all this stupidity when it appears to have accomplished nothing except make us broke, there lifestyle will certainly not be anywhere as good as yours was.

Out children and grandchildren will not be able to afford this, and pay our social security at the same time.

Exactly... no accountability from either side, but I have always hated the "you made me do it" defense. Come the f*** on! The GOP are not victims in this situation. They can actively fight for their budget and goals in more ways than just this one... All they are doing is holding the American people at state gunpoint. Everybody did not elect them, so they should work with the elected officials the people also elected. The government shouldn't even have the power to say, we'll govern and do want we want or we do nothing for the American people..
But the people who did elect them, elected them to take a hard line. I for one am happy to see this, besides, when Republicans have worked with Dems, Dems just turn around and say, "See, they spent money too." It just doesn't pay to bargain with Dems.

Sort of depends on how the press decides to spin it. This isn't a "one sided stand-off". The proposed threat by the GOP to not raise the debt ceiling is balanced by the Democrats refusal to cut specific spending.

Both sides have skin in the game. And both sides are playing it for all they can. Regardless how badly some may wish to portray it, the Democrats are not the designated angels in this matchup.....

.

I don't disagree with you... but if it's just a stunt, then the GOP isn't really trying to do anything. What about bipartisanship? The GOP look like the ones less willing to work with the other party, because they are making the threats...

How can the GOP reasonably place the blame for the shutdown on the democrats, when they're the only ones promoting and threatening a shutdown?

because it will be the democrats who are actually - you know - shutting down the government?

...Having already passed a seven-month continuing resolution that would cut federal spending by $61 billion, House Republicans are set to unveil this afternoon a second short-term spending bill that cuts $4 billion over a two-week period.

In a conference call with reporters, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R., Va.) said the short-term bill represented a “good faith effort to make bipartisan spending cuts” and give lawmakers enough time to iron out a longer-term proposal. He also reiterated that a government shutdown was “not an acceptable or responsible option for Republicans.” Congress must act to extend government funding before the current continuing resolution expires on March 4.

Cantor pointed out that the GOP will have soon proposed two separate bills to keep the government running, whereas Senate Democrats have yet to produce a single one. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) had floated a 30-day measure that would fund the government at current levels, but Republicans insist that any spending resolution include cuts.

In an effort to entice support from Senate Democrats, the short-term bill will include a number of cuts lifted straight from President Obama’s 2012 budget proposal and will strip out $2.7 billion worth of pork projects left over from the previous spending resolution, in accordance with the government-wide ban on earmarks. “If you take the Democrats at face value, this is an easy thing for them to accept,” said Rep. Peter Roskam (R., Ill.), the deputy whip...

Republicans are giving Democrats every possible chance to avoid this; all they need do is accept that the binge is over.

how is it making threats to send up funding bills and then ask Democrats to pass them so that the government can keep functioning? it's Democrats who are threatning this government with shut-down; assuming that "because they won that battle in the 90's" that they will win it now.

But i don't think they will. If Republicans hold to cutting spending, I think they win this fight.

Which is why I don't have a problem with expecting older working people in established professions to pay more NOW. They were the ones running up the deficit, so they should have to pay it back... Why should they get Bush tax cuts, medicare, and SS, and suck everything else dry while they are at it? It's BS. They were robbing us before we were born, and leaving us with the bill...

My generation shouldn't have to worry about this. They should be trying to make it right instead of complaining about it like they weren't the ones who f**ked us and the country. I hate when politicians do TV ads talking about leaving the bill to their kids and grandkids... because it was THEM who ran the deficit up in the first place, and now they want to talk about fairness and promote more tax cuts for themselves and hold out their government funded hands for raises. :2mad:

Yeah, because it worked so well for the last time. /sarcasm

The GOP, under Newt's guidance, tried this in the mid-90's with Clinton. It backfired badly. GOP approval dropped like a rock and Clinton, whose approval had been pretty low, skyrocketed. To do the same thing over again and expect a different result is the definition of insanity.

The only thing the GOP suffered was media criticism. It didn't cost them elections. I always thought that was a terrible definition of insanity btw.

We'll see if the approval ratings follow a similar track. It seriously has been seen in hindsight as one of the GOP congress's biggest blunders. I'm surprised they're planning on trying it again.

Why would it be only the fault of the GOP?

When the GOP cut spending with the Clinton era, Clinton got the pat on the back. The people saw this and hence George W. became elected and not the nut Gore.
This is how I think about it...You have a maxed out credit card...do you just keep paying back the min. and keep spending on the card because hey...we are paying something towards it..Or do you STOP spending period. You give up all your credit cards and with the money you make from those cuts start paying off you debt. Am I wrong? Doesnt this make sense...

so can i count on your support for my social security fix?

or Paul Ryan's roadmap? :)

Why would it be only the fault of the GOP?

because that's the narrative that the DNC and the media wants in place. reality need not apply.

How can the GOP reasonably place the blame for the shutdown on the democrats, when they're the only ones promoting and threatening a shutdown?

This is such a BS defense if they do shut it down...

....maybe because DEMOCRATS FAILED TO PASS A BUDGET LAST YEAR?.......making the shutdown possible.

You know....ignoring their constitutional duties.....similar to The Kenyan Tyrant ignoring whichever laws he disagrees with.

If Democrats hadnt been so busy defying the will of the american people........perhaps they would of had time last year to do their job.......

....although as we have seen from Democrats in Washington to Democrats in Wisconsin......thats asking a lot.

Republicans Ease Demands in Effort to Avert Government Shutdown - Businessweek

How is the GOP threatening or promoting a shutdown. They simply are saying...cut spending or you will not have anymore money to spend later...and did u read your own headline..Republicans Ease Demands in Bid to Avoid Government Shutdown...they do NOT want a shutdown. But we are tired of spending and will not keep giving without some cutbacks.

Yeah...maybe they should run away to another country......maybe they could just vote to "deem a budget passed"......or maybe just "ignore the budget".......it worked for Democrats

All they are doing is holding the American people at state gunpoint. Everybody did not elect them, so they should work with the elected officials the people also elected. .....less than 20% of America voted for The Kenyan Tyrant.......where has this concern been for the last 2 years?

Did Obama not propose 1 trillion in cuts over a decade that was shot down by conservatives? What was wrong with that budget? Conservatives have shown again and again that they aren't able to come forth with a budget any more streamlined than Obama's.

Willfull ignorance...........

.....is that the same Obama that "went through the federal budget line by line"........and managed to cut less than 1/2 of 1%?

The Most Expensive President in History......

I just don't get this mentality of "Give us tax cuts! Why is there a deficit?!?"

Bringing taxes back to their original levels would reduce the budget shortfall by $250 Billion in the short term. But god forbid the american people have to pay for what they voted for.

Cutting taxes doesnt always mean your cutting Tax Revenue.......I just dont get this mentality of "Raise Taxes! Why is there still a deficit?!"

......The Bush Tax Cuts--One of the largest tax cuts in history......and Tax Revenue increased.
