Hundreds of Libyans shot down

If those people had that right, they'd all be dead. As soon as people start firing back at soldiers, it stops being uneasy soldiers firing at crowds unahppily because they feel threatened, and it starts being professional soldiers shooting down insurgents left and right.

It is incredibly foolish to think that having a gun would have helped anyone here.

As a former military man, I can tell you with absolute surety that soldiers will always win against civilians. Soldiers have the equipment, the training, the back-up, the comms. Civilians have an old gun that might scare a blagger but looks like a joke compared to a well-kept assault rifle, let alone a tank.

If a foreign power were to occupy the United States, the only thing that would come of all the guns lying around your nation is a grossly inflated civilian death toll. Sorry, but it's true -- ask anyone with military experience.

I'm sorry to tell you this. But most of the gun owners in the states HAVE military experience. Most were in nam or some of other frequent wars the US starts. We are the big kids with the large penis in this world.

lethal force against unarmed protestors is disgusting, no matter where it is.

somebodys brothers, uncles, cousins, boyfriends, sons, fathers.

just horrible.

.

The US would do the same thing. And viktor would defend the government's action.

Can't wait for Israel to fall.

Israel already had its democratic revolution in 1948 and the protesters in all these states, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and others, even the Arabs living in the territories, wish they had a government exactly like Israel's.

isn't libya a member of the un's human rights commission?

wow!

that's GOTTA be embarrassing

to someone

cheers, cornwallis

say hi to gentleman johnny

Is that what they've been teaching you Brits in history class? :rofl

And what do they teach you? That Washington and a few militiamen stood up to the might of the British Empire and won? XD Take a look at the history books -- even those in the States, I think. Washington's only two victories before French intervention were when he snuck across the Delaware on Christmas Eve and murdered a bunch of Germans in their drunken sleep. Even Washington rights, in well-publicised letters, that his cause would be lost if the French didn't step in. That's why the Marquis de Lafayette was Washington's right-hand man -- Washington needed to impress France, because only French aide could turn the tide against Britain.

Which is exactly what happened. France sent thousands of pounds worth of material aid, about 8000 soldiers (which was, I might add, a huge amount at the time and larger than the regular Colonial army), and its fleet. In fact, France sent so much aide to the colonies, just to piss off Britain, that it nearly bankrupted itself and set the stage for the French Revolution to occur shortly after.

It's fact. France is the reason you're a nation today. Why do people deny this? Where's the shame in that?

Technically he's right. We wouldn't have won the Revolutionary War without France. Then again, France would probably be speaking German at this point if it weren't for us.

The Russian language is way sexier, I'll give you that.

Hehe, appreciate it. But I simply meant that, if the Brits, Americans, Canadians and Free French hadn't landed in Normandy and began pushing East towards Germany, the Red Army would've gobbled up the entire continent, from the Ukraine to the Bay of Biscay and the English Channel. Thus, the French would not have been under German rule had the Anglosphere Allies not been able to invade France, they would have been under Soviet rule.

not in '81, it's true, not at yorktown

cornwallis was driven mad chasing greene and danny morgan across carolina

burgoyne lost an army at saratoga in '77, and clinton was forced outta philly in the spring of '78

the notion that the french won the war is ludicrous

it was just a matter of time---look at hickory in oreans in '14

the only way the patriots coulda lost is by quitting, and that warn't gonna happen

back to the topic---libya

does anyone remember what it was like to have a foreign policy run by adults?

Try to take a look at a history book some time. Then go buy some common sense pills from the general provisioner's, and get back to us.

Edit:

Take a look at this, I posted this on the last page, but it got lost.

Look, I understand the feeling of patriotism, and I, as a Brit, have great pride in my country, just as you have great pride in yours. It's always great to celebrate the victories, commemorate the dead, support the living, and remember the losses -- that, as a package, is what makes history so important. So why do some people, not just Americans, choose to re-write aspects of their own history? There's no reason to be ashamed of your losses, just as there's no reason to be ashamed of your victories. We all win, and we all lose. America has lost wars, just as it has won wars. America has needed foreign aide, and it has also given it. What's the problem? Why don't you want to admit something like "France helped America in its War for Independence"? Where's the problem?

france helped america win the war

happy?

the notion that france won the war is ludicrous

sad?

ask pakenham, ask keane, ask admiral cochrane

read that book, now

What history books are you even reading? Revisionist....

Trenton, Princeton, Bennington, Saratoga, Kings mountain, Cowpens and of course Yorktown. These were all major batttles of the Revolution won by the Americans & only Yorktown had any major French presence.

Also... Have ever heard of the battle of New Orleans? apparently not.....

Ooooh! Dear leader flanked by Hillary, finally has a response & He's thinking of possibly sanctions, of course not unilaterally as we must get the UNs permission before we could do anything.

I'll bet Gaddafi is just shaking in his boots, this panty waste of a president will never use force which unforunatly is the only thing that is going to stop this "madman of the Middle east" as Reagan so elequently put it. Lord could we use Reagan now as he knew how to deal with these types of characters. Its just to bad the bombs missed his tent back then.

Oh I know that! I just like to play with condescending Brits who deny that they actually lost the revolutionary war to a bunch of pissed-off colonists. It still chafes them, so I rub it in. Don't deny me my fun!

Gaddafi is a special kind of crazy dictator. While he sends texts to civilians offering rewards for loyalty and calls the revolutionaries greasy cats and rats ... Clinton is exactly right on target to take this carefully and observe with resolute and analytical thought.

Crazy Gaddafi will most likely hold out the longest yet like Mubarek he will be out of there.

Tunisia lit a match and the wildfire is spreading across the mideast. Revolution will not be an easy path yet let us hope for the people that democracy prevails.

All of the tribes in Libya have declared war on Qadaffi and are closing in on Tripoli to finish the job. Here is a map of who controls what, as of Wednesday evening:

Where is the media coverage and celebration for the uprising in Lybia and Iran??? Whahappun???

I think they're having problems getting in.

Libyan Army is hitting the protesters hard right now and the Airports are clogged.

Just saw on the news that Gaddafi has 32 billion dollars at his disposal to buy mercenaries.

One must wonder why the Dear Leader's response to this crisis has been so slow & tepid especially considering we have a boat full of Americans that are stuck there right now, although I'm sure he's busy getting ready for his Motown party, but if you dig a little bit deeper you will see that his good pals Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakan are pretty tight with ole Gaddafi.

The Americans were warned over a week ago to get out of Libya. What do you suggest? Invasion?

Yep, warned. Heck I'll even go one step further, the State Dept even secured a ferry to get them out. Ofcourse they'll have to pay the cost of their own removal....I guess they are conservatives...
