Wisconsin Governor to Missing Democrats: Do Your Job

“Some of what I've heard coming out of Wisconsin, where you're just making it harder for public employees to collectively bargain generally seems like more of an assault on unions. And I think it's very important for us to understand that public employees, they're our neighbors, they're our friends. These are folks who are teachers and they're firefighters and they're social workers and they're police officers.

“They make a lot of sacrifices and make a big contribution. And I think it's important not to vilify them or to suggest that somehow all these budget problems are due to public employees.”

— President Barack Obama¹

Wow, a Republican Governor not allowing a financial crisis of his own making to go to waste. Imagine that!

In less than a month, Walker created a financial crisis? :lamo

no doubt you resent teachers make more than you.....people contributing to mankind deserve MUCH more.......on the other hand, how much do the gop babies such as those sitting on their ASSES speculating on gasoline futures deserve? apparently shills for the privlidged argue these miscreants create "wealth"

what silly socialist psychobabbing

and your comments about Noodle are rather silly-I write it up to you being a newbie because Noodle is hardly a traditional libertarian

most of us on the right think he's kinda pink

sir, how much do you think your wages would be cut if your donald trumf stupid people could kill the union we have protecting your decent wage?

In somewhat cognizable grammar please

So let's say for example that the republican (or democrat, just to not be partisan) majority vote to legalize slavery, and it was the same case. Would you then support them boycotting to keep the bill from being passed, or would you support the passage of slavery in the silly name of "doing your job"?

Well, I would hope that since they were voted into office that they were smart enough to realize how... what's the word... disgusting owning another human is? If they need partisan rhetoric and talking points then even though they accomplished a good thing, it doesn't make them any less terrible leaders.

I am not a big "ends justify the means" guy. I guess what I am trying to say is that if the letter next to your name (R or D) has any sway on your vote, then your vote is meaningless (the rhetorical you).

This struggle isn't about what is good for Wisconsin. This is in your face politics by Governor Walker, pure and simple.

Or maybe it's about cowardly politics by the state senate Democrats? Or maybe a little of both...

Somehow, legislators leaving their home, their families, their constituents doesn't strike me as cowardly. It sounds like a last recourse. It stops the process temporarily for lack of a quorum and gives the people of the state a chance to examine what's being ramrodded through the legislature. But, ultimately these senators, they're Wisconsin patriots or should I say ‘Packers’? They'll go home but not before Wisconsin voters have a chance to see what is being done in their name.

No union has protected my wages. I am not a union employee. And Donald Trump stupid people? I believe unions have their place, but they power has grown to large. Again though, my wage and benefits are not protected by any union. I am not a union employee.

yeah, too much power by "unions"....that what the tparty will investigate after getting folks "was obams born in africa?" and "did michelle obaba murder anyone? after all, hilary did.....dumb hillbillies

In less than a month, Walker created a financial crisis? :lamo

You can read the fiscal bureaus report here (PDF). It holds that "more than half" of the new shortfall comes from three of Walker's initiatives:
  • $25 million for an economic development fund for job creation, which still holds $73 million because of anemic job growth.
  • $48 million for private health savings accounts -- a perennial Republican favorite.
  • $67 million for a tax incentive plan that benefits employers, but at levels too low to spur hiring.
In essence, public workers are being asked to pick up the tab for this agenda. "The provisions in his bill do two things simultaneously," Norman says. "They remove bargaining rights, and having accomplished that, make changes in the benefit packages." That's how Walker's plan saves money. And when it's all said and done, these workers will have lost their bargaining rights going forward in perpetuity.

I see it differently. I see them as individuals who are too scared to do their jobs and vote on a bill because they know it will not end in their favor. So, in scheming cowardice they have decided to abuse a loophole in the law and boycott a vote on a bill they know they can't win against. They do this by running away from their duties and refusing to face what lies ahead of them. They are trying to restrict the democratic rights of other senators and trying to immaturely "get their way." They aren't patriots, a patriot wouldn't try to prevent American democracy because they disagree with the other side who is backed by the will of the people.

How is this relevant? I don't believe Obama was born in Africa or that Michelle Obama killed anyone...

Thats what it is and nothing more. They are doing what their constituents elected them to do which is to oppose the other party. Even if that means fleeing town to prevent a bill they oppose from passing.

yes, but many of your ignorant hillbillies do

Not oppose the other party. Oppose union-busting legislation in the land that brought collective action to America. You would expect nothing less from your representatives, yes?

We protest against Governor Walker's tactics and his bogus union-busting budget.

My "ignorant hillbillies"? So because I disagree with you I am classified as an ignorant hillbilly?

Here is a cool math trick

1.Make up a 3 digit number.
2.put that 3 digit number next to itself. For example if you pick 123 then it would be 123123.
3.Divide that number by 13
4.divide that number by 7
5.divided that number by 11

Whats the point of me bringing up a math trick? The point is it doesn't have jack **** to do with the topic of the thread just like your little rant.

Yeah but, dude, sweet trick. How the hell does that work? :)

*Edit:

Nevermind. That trick, while cool, is pretty easy to figure out!

Are we talking about the 'C' titles and the amount of work they do? No we arent. And I agree with what youre saying about those types of jobs. They rarely really "work". Now on the other hand either do many teachers. Especially in the Chicago area. Their jobs are pretty darn easy PLUS they have months off of work. And youre darn right I resent how much they make! To the point of myself moving out of Illinois and into Indiana later this year. Im done paying unions pensions.

I feel any elected official that flees his/her jurisdiction to avoid having to do their jobs should be fired.

Spare us your contrived outrage. This is simple politics. It is a tool that is at the disposal of many state legislators. Think of it as a fillibuster or a senate hold.

Bear in mind the governor usurped or over-reached on his authority by trying to ram-rod significant legislation through on little notice (under the public radar). This is but a tactic designed to bring attention to an issue. If the issue has sufficient traction with the public, it can be defeated. If it does not, then the AWOL legislators will meekly return and watch the legislation pass. Its rather harmless and a bit entertaining in the grand scheme of things.

I don't see how that is different than opposing the other party. Republicans want to the anti-unions rules and the democrats do not want to see the anti-union rules enacted. This is basically like a filibusterer or some other means a minority party may use to keep the opposition from winning.

It's a delaying tactic. Nothing more.
