The haggardness of poverty is everywhere seen contrasted with the sleekness of wealth, the exhorted labor of some compensating for the idleness of others, wretched hovels by the side of stately colonnades, the rags of indigence blended with the ensigns of opulence; in a word, the most useless profusion in the midst of the most urgent wants.Jean-Baptiste Say

As the State employees fight to keep from paying a paltry 12% of their health care insurance, a little contribution to their retirement and the keeping the holy grail of union benefits – collective/social bargaining – the people of Wisconsin have little or no sympathy for state employees who make $20,000.00 per year more than the average private sector worker, get premium retirements and health care planes for life.

I didn’t expect American government employees to take such a hard stand in the face of so much state debt.

Today Berry’s team is claiming that their involvement is way over stated. When Berry said that the WI governor is just trying to bust the union he wasn’t sticking his nose into state matters – as forbidden by our Constitution. And the fact that his “propaganda .org” people are bussing people to WI was not his idea.

I saw a sign that said “Tax the Rich”. Which means that the left wing unions just don’t care what happens to the economy.

How are they "punishing the children"? I did not see any pics of teachers molesting or disciplining kids over the last few days on my TV.

One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

    This doesn't sound unreasonable....

Walker's plan would allow unions representing most public employees to negotiate only for wage increases, not benefits or working conditions. Any wage increase above the Consumer Price Index would have to be approved in a referendum. Unions would face a vote of membership every year to stay formed, and workers could opt out of paying dues.
For compromise in Wis., 3 GOP senators are needed - Yahoo! News

I love the part that any wage increase abocve the CPI would take taxpayer approval. That sounds very fair to me. The unions need to compromise. I hope the Republicans stand firm. It's why they were put in office with such a resounding mandate.

How is that "punishing the children"? Kids do not go to school on Saturday and Sunday. They do not go to school on many other days of the year also during breaks and vacations. Wisconsin mandates a certain number of days of instruction and the children there will get that amount. No child will be denied one hour of education. There is no "punishment".

It just occurred to me, Haymarket...is this how you chose your user name?

The Haymarket affair (also known as the Haymarket massacre or Haymarket riot) was a demonstration and unrest that took place on Tuesday May 4, 1886, at the Haymarket Square[3] in Chicago. It began as a rally in support of striking workers. An unknown person threw a dynamite bomb at police as they dispersed the public meeting. The bomb blast and ensuing gunfire resulted in the deaths of eight police officers, mostly from friendly fire, and an unknown number of civilians.[4][5] In the internationally publicized legal proceedings that followed, eight anarchists were tried for murder. Four men were convicted and executed, and one committed suicide in prison, although the prosecution conceded none of the defendants had thrown the bomb.
    I'm serious...no offense.
