Budget sets stage for fight

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama proposed a $3.73 trillion budget Monday for fiscal 2012 that he said will start reining in runaway budget deficits, but his plan envisions the gross national debt swelling by almost $13 trillion over a decade.

This was on the front page today in the major newpaper for these parts. I seriously hope that Obama does not get re-elected. At this point I'd probably even vote for Palin. And I'm no fan of hers.

I was really disappointed with Obama's budget. The cuts are not steep enough and there is still too much spending. I tentatively am agreeing with the GOP on this one, but I am not convinced that the GOP is following its fiscal conservative roots anymore based on the Bush II era of spending and the way they decline to make cuts that violate their party loyalties.

I forget the exact date, but it's something like by 2030 we will not have enough GDP to even pay the annual interest on our debt. The cuts have to start now and they have to be extremely steep. $3.2 trillion over 10 years is just not enough. Someone in the parties has to make the hard and unpopular call, and do the right thing. But we have too many career politicians only looking out for themselves now, and not enough people looking out for the country.

I agree there are not enough cuts, and any attempt to raise even a penny in taxes helps sustain the poor outlook people have on the future and that spells little or no recovery.

Our economy is based more than most realize on attitude which fuels speculation, which in turn sparks investment.

When all of this comes together people who don't usually invest will spend a little more freely and that consumption further grows the economy by creating demand and puts manufacturing plants to work. The more the demand the more workers needed.

I still say that if Obama had a brain he'd start a fight to keep all defense contacts at home for security reasons with a couple exceptions I have listed before. This would help put people to work and keep our tax money closer to hoem.

I would also tie any outside contract to other economic ties to those few Nations, and that would mean as we pay for defense items we could expect it to come back on puchases of items we could export.

This would require dumping a bunch of BS regulations and Taxes that inhibit growth.

obama's going around bragging about his bipartisan tax cuts---he was dragged kicking and screaming, after punting for two years americans' central relationship with the irs, before finally surrendering on those tax cuts for the rich on the eve of the biggest tax increase in history

he promised a thousand times no one under 200K would see a tax increase, yet obamacare includes three quarters of a T in new revenues

he still doesn't get it, even after tsunami tuesday shellacked his obama butt---his budget proposes 150B in new stimulus, which he can't call stimulus, his rhetorical resort today is "innovation"

yet he admitted to ny times mag in december that he only just discovered "there's no such thing as a shovel ready job"

for two years, he pusillanimously and irresponsibly kicked the can to his default debt commission, but his budget ignores its recommendations

where's the leadership?

the upcoming spending wars probably won't be as intense as most pundits predict, the party still in power must capitulate

a sizeable slice of dem congressfolk will defect

the white house, always insular, is more isolated than its ever been

it's checkmated, no way out

the battlefields are not confined to the budget---we will fight over appropriations, we will fight over the debt ceiling

we will make substantial demands to which the white house will be forced to submit

funding for planned parenthood, the corp for public broadcasting, the epa, implementation of obamacare are just some of the most headline grabbing of our bargaining chips

and we hold a trump card that is game changing

yesterday, white house budget director lew was grilled before house and senate budget committees by members from both parties

kent conrad, the gatekeeper's right hand, the north dakota dem who first cassandra-like foretold the collapse of the public option, took the lead

when america is forced to look to the senate, embodiment of endless chin-stroking deliberation sans action, for leadership, we're in trouble

obama's a joke, a fraud, he's in way over his head

he never intended to be president in times like these

in a crisis, most particularly, americans look to their white house

today, no one's home

interesting; in 2008 we had a near second great depression caused by the same private sector greed as the first (you DO remember 2008?). now out of nowhere comes the "deficit" (caused largely by republicans) and 2008 has gone away; with herbert hoover remedies to the fore
