Muslim students at the University of California at Irvine have a history of seeking to silence those with whom they disagree. This practice is becoming increasingly intolerable. They are abusing their venue and status.

IRVINE, Calif. — When administrators at the University of California, Irvine, decided to suspend the Muslim Student Union for a quarter over the disruption of a speech last year by the Israeli ambassador to the United States, most thought the latest controversy on campus had ended.

District Attorney Tony Rackauckas of Orange County, however, disagreed — and filed misdemeanor criminal charges last week against the 11 student protesters, accusing them of disturbing a public meeting and engaging in a conspiracy to do so...."

Oh btw, UC Irvine is one of the lesser UC campuses. It is not widely respected throughout the state.

Tolerance is only for those that agree with progressive causes. Anyone else not so much.

Wait... so its the progressives that are tolerated... and the something else's that are not, yet the thread is about charges against progressive radicals? We are to tolerate hate speech? But not this.

...mkay.

The word is out now about UC Irvine students. The Muslim students who are intolerant of free speech and the pattern of intolerance tolerated at UC Irvine for many years now has allowed the entire University to be viewed as base.

The word is out now among big employers. This will have an impact on employer recruiting at UC Irvine. Good luck finding decent jobs kiddies. You're gonna be blackballed.

All i want to say is that I've had the pleasure of working with Tony Rauckaukas and he's a total bad ass.

Well from what I got from the article was that there was a sponsored talked and these students went into the auditorium and purposefully created a disturbance in order to shut it down. I don't know if I would necessarily press charges, particularly at this point. But that type of behavior does warrant removal from the building. In the end, people will say all sorts of things and we have to allow it. But the school should also be interested in its public appearance and the conduct of its students. They themselves can take action when groups or individuals break the rules of student conduct. That seemed to be what happened here, the group was suspended for a quarter.

They were stopping a speaker's right to his free speech.

what they didn't do is act in a respectful manner. if they had questions they should have at the very least waited until the end and waited for their opportunity to ask about any concerns they had, in a orderly manner.

or they should've just left. like these students. they got their message across loud and clear. no shouting, no yelling, no interrupting.

University of Michigan Campus

On October 20 2010, two IDF soldiers came to the University of Michigan campus as part of a national PR campaign by Stand With Us aimed at justifying Israel's recent atrocities in the Middle East. Students, staff, and community members collectively engaged in a silent walk-out in memory and in solidarity with all of the silenced Palestinian children that were killed by the IDF during Israel's most recent offensive on the Gaza Strip who are unable to take a stand and give their account today

for which they were removed, allowing the speaker to continue. no harm, no foul. They got their point across, as did the speaker.

Then there's this...

In a statement, an Oakland group called the Jewish Voice for Peace urged the Orange County District Attorney's Office "to immediately stop efforts to criminalize the actions of these Muslim students who, in the long-standing tradition of non-violent activism for social justice, protested the speech of the Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren."

they should drop this.

I saw the video and these protesters were clearly there to disrupt and they did in deed break the law. They are trying to hide behind free speech which they knew they would violate prior to them organizing the disruption.

Throw the book at them.

Did you watch the video? It wasn't one interruption and then they were all removed. It was planned so that there were numerous interruptions and they were removed one at a time.

Absolutely, and in the past some of these Anti Free speech leftists have been violent.

Now if they had some sort of private company or industry that would benefit from the disruption of say a town hall meeting and shuttle them around and train them and distribute literature towards the most effective way to crash the event for the benefit of private interests and profit. That'd be heroic. Pfft, 'genocide'? That's just hysterics.

Why can't they just let the man speak? Civil people debate facts, not use strong arm tactics like these people did.

They believe that genocide is being committed, which they believe justifies their behavior.

What they believe is not relevant. The fact is that they are screaming free speech while obstructing someone else's free speech. Do you see that?

and not letting the man speak, helps their side how?

When people stop other's from their right to free speech, they should lose that right too.

Don't start snipping at me... I don't recall issuing unmitigated support for them.

Yeah.

You're a bundle of diametrically self annulling absolutes or something.

Who remembers the Town Hall meetings last summer? Why is it some of those who defended the loud protests then are so against it now?

I believe if you look at it, most of the outcries at those town hall meetings were during open question periods where a back and forth is encouraged. These people we are talking about here don't even want the person to speak at all much less get to any question period.

Last I remembered they were screaming and howling and using tactics to be most effectively disrupting without being removed.

.

Just regular support.

You referred to these regressive, knuckle dragging racist troglodytes as "progressive", tried to legitimize their insane accusations of "genocide" as valid, and provided your support through the validation of their cause and actions.
