Will hear it is folks. Looking at it this budget doesn't save any real money.
Got to say I'm really disappointed. But to be fair it's political suicide to attack SS, Medicare, Defense etc. and this ridiculous deficit didn't just show up on Obama's watch. It's been brewing for some time.

The problem is our politicians value their reelections more than they do what's good for the country. Obama included. The American people don't want to hear the truth.

    Budget Blowback Threatens Obama

President Obama will hold a press conference this morning in answer to the wide criticism of his budget proposal.

He needs to speak out because his plan didn’t get much of a defense from his own team.
    Losing the touch, eh Barry?

Left slams Obama over safety net - Feb. 15, 2011

Boy.. Barry just can't win, can he... :

It doesn't come as a shock that Republicans aren't thrilled with President Obama's budget proposal. But Democrats aren't exactly jumping for joy either.

Obama's budget targets community block grants, a program that helps low-income people pay their energy bills, and the popular Pell grant program to aid college students. All are part of the social safety net Democrats often fight to protect.

And that has the left howling.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee, a liberal organization that boasts 700,000 members, took Obama to task before the budget was even officially released.

I don't think that is quite true today. Although in the past you are absolutely correct in that we didn't want government to touch our entitlements, in today's climate where the administration is putting out farcical budgets with spending as far as the eye can see, we know that hard choices are going to have to be made. We can do this by starting with what the deficit commission suggested.

At some point, things get so bad that addressing the obvious issues with SS, Medicare and Medicaid will no longer be political suicide. We see State governors taking on entitlements in NJ, CA and NY and those governors are getting high marks from public polls. What's his name in Florida before the election (key there: before) in 2010 identified SS will have to go to 67 or 70 years old - he still go elected by a large margin. IN FLORIDA.... there are enough blue hairs in that state to kill any politician.

    It may be time.
I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

It is absolutely time. People my age (48) and younger already think that SS won't be there when we retire, so what's the difference? Look, the people that are on, or ready to retire presently shouldn't have their plans disrupted, but say those 50 and less, should be working to make things better, and part of that is reality.

I don't think that has changed at all. People tend to want their entitlements, but want someone else's cut. Even the Tea party says things like balance the budget, but don't touch my SS or Medicare. Business wants their benefits. The rich want their cuts. Doctors won't go back to trading services for fruits and vegitables. Famers want substidies. Across the board, nearly eveyone sees the need for someone else to take the hit.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

Why does it always have to turn immediately to class warfare with you?

Class warfare? Never broght that up. So, I think you're projecting, maybe too hung up on a sterotype froming reading too much American non-Thinker.

What did bring up is that everyone, no matter who we're talking about, wants someone else to cut and not themselves. You can argue that I'm wrong, but I don't think I am. But it has nothing to do with class warfare.

Well, sure you did, and your AmThinker jabs are wearing thin, you need a new bag. However, what you or I think is irrelevant at this point, the reality of this fake budget, and its fake cuts, but very real tax increases will not play as it is written. Maybe that is the plan, maybe not, we'll have to see.

From where I sit, no one I know is of the mind set that SS, or Medi anything will be in place when we retire, so at this point a real plan is needed. But, maybe you can explain why it is that Obama assembles a commission to tackle the real budgetary problem facing us, then refuses to take their recommendations? Sounds like Kabuki theatre to me.
