Demonstrators in Algeria Demand Democratic Reform.

Algerian Riot Police Break Up Protest

It would seem as if a chain reaction has been set off.
I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

Seems pretty much restricted to the Arab world thus far... Tunisia and Egypt with toppled governments, protests in Yemen, Oman, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon (though for apparently unrelated reasons) and now Algeria... hmmm.... wonder if this will spread outside of the Arab world...

Algeria I doubt will see a successfull change without an armed revolution. The Algerian military I dont think will have issues with repressing the protestors, and international condemnation will have little effect as Algeria is a significant supplier of oil and gas. Meaning they will still be able to fund its operations. The same goes for the gulf states. I doubt any peacefull protests will work. Countries that do not have significant oil and gas revenues I think can and will suceed in having peacefull protests changing governments

On Friday I heard a Liberal activist here say she wanted it to happen here. I wish I had got her name.

I am in favor of Democratic Reform and the peaceful protests as long as they don't result in the Islamic Cult taking over as they have in Iran.
