Swiss gun fight looms for modern William Tells

Swiss voters will take part in a nationwide referendum tomorrow that will decide whether to scrap a controversial law that allows citizens to keep guns at home according to a tradition going back to the country's legendary folk hero, William Tell.
In other news, France is keeping a close eye on developments in Switzerland. Should the Swiss bill pass, France will declare a national holiday, which will forever be on their calendar. No more will the French surrender each time a stray bullet accidentally finds its way into French air space, because no more bullets will be accidentally finding their way into French air space.

And, in other news, Switzerland, the land of William Tell, will no longer be known for its freedoms, as one of freedom's last bastions will have been taken away from them. Pity that the Swiss didn't have a US Constitution, along with a Second Amendment, to protect their right to bear arms. So willing to surrender their freedoms, the Swiss might as well be French now.

NOTE: 2 France bashes in one post. Damn, I'm good.

The joke about France surrendering is getting old now, and it's not even accurate. France was bad ass before the U.S. ever existed and their commando units are second to none.

It's all in fun, but if it makes you feel better, I will bash my own heritage. I am half Irish, on my father's side, and half Jewish, on my mother's side. Want to know how my grandfather got to the United States? One Irishman swam across the Atlantic, and the rest of them walked across on the scum. Finally, all my relatives on my father's side were cops, but I couldn't be a cop. Want to know why? Because, if I stopped someone for running a red light, I wouldn't know whether to write them a ticket or stone them to death.

Like I said, it's all in fun.

    They are second to ours.

Who'd want a Swiss gun anyway? They have holes all through them.

It would be a real shame for one of the few relatively free countries in Europe to give up a fundamental cornerstone of freedom. I hope the Swiss people have better sense than to vote for this.

Banning guns because they might be used in suicide is a terrible idea. I don't think that it really helps anyone if suicidal people end up hanging themselves instead of shooting themselves.

At least the Swiss are being given the choice through vote, unlike our government which is trying to take away our guns despite the 2nd Amendment.
